I would like to get a Lexus for my wife who has a severe disability and a rough ride really hurts her and as a result travel is very limited. I was wondering if anybody could help me in telling us if the lexus ride is sporty or touring. Ideally she needs a car to ride in that would be like the Lincoln towncar or continental used to be...although it seems nobody makes those anymore.

A model would be helpful and if anybody knows anything we could do to the suspension to make a more comfortable that would also be useful.

We have talked to several sales people via the internet (because the trip is hard on her) and get several responses.

The LS would be perfect for her. Its a very cushy ride if all the suspension parts are in great shape.

The LS430 Ultra Luxury has the reputation for driving "like you are on a cloud". You may want to check out the LS430 fora.
Two things to be aware of:
1. Many sellers do not know (or do not care to describe their vehicle accurately) and use the word "luxury" in the description. Let us know if you would like assistance in correctly identifying a car you are looking at.
2. The air suspension system will eventually fail (the average seems to be at somewhere between 80 and 120 K miles. It is rather expensive to fix - the list price for each air shock is reportedly $1200, and you have to add labor. However, it gives the best ride that I am aware of.

It all depends on what your budget is for the car. 5-7k I would go for the 98-00 LS400 with lots of records/carfax report. 8-10k I would look for an LS430.

We can buy new so is there a 2014 LS that would work because I can only find LS 460 in San Diego. Please advise and thank you very much.

Well the LS 460 is the current LS. LS 400 89-00, LS430 01-06, LS 460 07- to current date so I would get that 460 but if you want to know more go into the LS 460 forum and ask some questions. The ride is just as good maybe better so I've heard.

The Towncar has a softness in ride that any LS I've ridden or driven doesn't have. Soft springy seats, wide entry and exit. The solid rear axle has characteristics that independent rears do not share. I would suggest the past gen Caddy Sedan DeVille's or current DTS. I haven't driven a DTS so I'm presuming it carries over the ride characteristic qualities of the prior. Others to consider: Buick Park Avenue and the Toyota Avalon. Does it have to be a sedan?

The LS's have a comfortable ride though what I may feel is soft may not be to another. The ride qualities are quite subjective. The LS 400's from 90-'94 were "softer" than the 95-00'. The 430's with air have a nice feel and to me they were comparable and also hand improved handling feel. As Gene01 mentions, when the air suspension in those models go, it is big $.

Thank; you all...FYI the DTS is NOTHING like the Cadillac used to be in fact the ride in my sable is smoother which is kinda sad. Tried the Avalon but it didnt work for her. Will look into the buickk park ave.

really, to match the touring and comfort of the LS400/LS430, may I suggest getting the LS 460 L version, that is the full size luxury cruiser we all know and love! (that L on the end is important)

and if you can afford the LS 460 L - then don't waste her time on a Lincoln Town Car, Cadillac, or Buick Park Avenue - these are not even in the same league.
