Default pulled out some hair

hello, i'll make this short as possible. i bought a 1996 lexus ls400 without hearing it run. i said "ahh", it looks all together. guess i"ll take it home. had the ecu rebuilt. timing belt replaced ,new coil, new crank sensor and other tests but wont stay running.starts but wont stay running when key goes back to on.i spoke to a key man that i was recomended. he said that maybe the ignition is not connecting to ecu. that maybe there is a way to make them connect manually. i dont know what else it could be. i already spent bout a grand. any proceedures or ideas most appreciated. thank. Frank

frank, welcome and let's not pull any more hair. who rebuilt your ECU? it has come to my attention that most ebay and over the counter ECU repairs are not using the proper capacitors.

lots of reading on this subject here:

yes, it is likely that either the ECU rebuild or the timing belt change was botched

Have you ruled out the ignition switch contacts yet? That would be my first check since it seems to crank and begin to run when in the start position but dies when you let off to the 'on' position.
