1995 Ls400 tire size
Was wondering if anyone could help me out. I just bought a 1995 ls400 with 235/60-17'. The drive is a little harsh. What's the biggest tire I can get for a smoother ride before it starts to hit the wheel well.
Please help

the smoothest riding tire size is the original size 225/60-16
a little better handing, but less cushy ride would be 225/55-17
a little better handling than that, and starting to get into a pretty stiff ride would be 225/50-18
once you get away from these three sizes, then you can easily get into issues of hitting the wheel well, speedo accuracy way off, really rough ride, etc. - not recommended!
PS - if you want a little more width in the back (only!) try this combo:
Front: 225/55-17
Rear: 245/50-17
the tire size you have now is way off for the stock suspension geometry! - if you are going to radically change the suspension, alignment and all kinds of other factors, then the tires you have now might work fine, but that is a whole other conversation!
another thing to consider, tires of the same exact size, can ride vastly different! - generally, three tires made for LS400 give the best combination of ride, handling, wet and dry traction, longevity, quietness and fuel mileage:
● Michelin Primacy MXV4
● Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus
● Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus

for a '92 and earlier, I would get some 16" rims from a '93 or newer and run some 225/55-16 or else stick with the stock 205/65-15 if I wanted the cushiest ride possible!

Welcome to Club Lexus.
Many aspects to tire comfort involved. If this 235/60-17 is a high performance tire, the ride characteristics will be harsher over a A/S and touring comfort tire. As well, the current tire deviates in diameter so your speedometer will read slow to actual speed.
The stock 16" wheels and tire would be your best way to start. If you want to make due with the 17" wheels, then a 225/55-17 is correct size. LScowboyLS tire recommendations are top choices.

'93 LS400 me and the previous owner always with stock 225/60R16 measurement tires.
Among the 3 tires mentioned by Cowboy
● Michelin Primacy MXV4
● Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus
● Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus
Which would have the quietest ride? Thanks.
I think thread design plays a role in the noise level.

the Michelin Primacy MXV4 is still the best tire for the LS400, always has been, and it is very quiet - unfortunately a set of 4 is at about $100 more than the other two.

'93 LS400: From previous owner the car had and I still have on (Cooper Matrix M+S. 225/60r16's). I've driven about 20k - 30k miles on then, they still have a lot of tread, and the tread wears very evenly. All four.
I guess wearing is attributed to the alignment/balance of any car or lack thereof.
On quiet roads you can hear the tire's road noise.
