this is what I did when I replaced stock nak HU with 1 din jvc receiver (no CD player)



curios about what is in? here we go



realize a stock ashtray up there? yes it is, here is how i fit it in

materials are old HU frame with all electronic components removed and an ashtray. I cut the bottom of the ashtray so that it fits 1 DIN



I cut the 2 side metal frame like this



only the frame bottom used, removed top



now try it on

the bezel needs a bit more time from this

thats it. hope it provides ideas for anyone who are going to replace stock with 1 din HU

Okay, that's some pretty snazzy DIY engineering there. Out of curiosity, what made you go with the "gloss black" finish on the panel, rather than matched to the gray?

do you think it matches the HU gloss finish? i want it looks somehow "related" to the HU as it actually keeps the iPod, where HU gets music from

It matches pretty well, though it's slightly glossier. I figured that was what you were trying to do. It still looks really good though, just I would have probably opted for color-matching it to the plastic.

My only concern would be the fingerprints because of the high gloss finish... Its the bane of my existence on my phone!
