Should be the same although different part numbers, whats the problem with the old one as you can replace just the bearing for a few $$$s.

Yup..Would changing the entire pulley with bracket solve the problem ?

Yes, the tensioner can be unbolted and tossed out, and a new one put in it's place. I wouldn't even mess around with the old one. the previous owner probably just torqued the bejesus out of it!

If it answers your question, on Rockauto the aftermarket tensioners are designed to fit a variety of years, some of them fit 1990-79 models, others fit 1990-2000.

However, if the Toyota part numbers are different for the two years like steve2006 said, you may want to get more specfic and just stick with OEM

Thanks Yoshi....I decided to put the extra couple bucks and I got a 96 Pulley
