Help! — Locked out of trunk
Just bought a 1990 ls400. When i got home to clean everything
I figured out i cant get in the trunk.
The valet lock is not on, my key can lock and unlock glove box (master).
When i hit the trunk release i hear what sounds to be like a relay switch in the driver
Kick panel.
When i try to use the key to open the trunk, it turns but nothing happens.
Is there any way in? My only thought was bust a tail light but will that give me anyroom to hit the latch? Is there a wire i can give direct 12volt? Help me please

The tail light is held in by bolts that go through the sheet metal. The holes for the cables are < 1" in diameter, so they would not allow access to the lock mechanism unless you are very, very good with a coat hanger.
Sorry I can't think of a solution to the problem.

Bear in mind this is based on a RHD 1997 JDM LS400 ( Toyota Celsior) so the loom may be on the other side.
If you remove the plastic sill trim along YOUR driver's door you should find a wiring loom in there, peel back the insulation tape and in the bunch should be a plain black wire, this is the feed to the trunk release solenoid, strip the insulation from this wire and then momenterily apply 12 volts to it from your car battery.
This should activate the trunk lock solenoid and release the trunk lid.
If the trunk solenoid has failed obviously this method will not work.
As I said this is based on a RHD version so the loom may run along your passenger door on a LHD model.
The photograph below shows the black wire, in my case I cut the wire then connected the 12 volts to the end nearest the trunk, popped the trunk then remade the wire connections and reinsulated.

on other cars, I have gotten in a locked trunk via removing the back seat (which is easy on LS400) but I have not tried crawling through from back seat to trunk on an LS400, so maybe some of the other folks here can comment on whether that is feasible on this car. Thinking that gas tank may be in the way.
