Please help me out Guys- car shuts off
I have a 1996 Lexus LS 400 never had any problems until now. I have changed only the battery and radiator, so the car has been really good.
1. The only problem I'm having now, is when I press the gas it takes the car about 5 seconds to accelerate. This only happens when I don’t come to a complete stop or come to a red light and then the light immediately changes.
2. Another problem, when I reverse sometimes the car shuts off.
3. Another problem when I press the gas or brake the car starts a bouncing move like a motor cycle and feels like it’s about the turn off.
Not sure what’s going on can anyone help me out?

I would check all grounds and inspect the ecu for leaking caps and damage. Also clean the throttle body and test the throttle position sensor to make sure its in spec.

Ok thank you lexxpro...Well today I was coming home from work and the car shuts off while driving, The only thing that was taking place was the tap player was on and it begin to make some type of noise. So I turned it off, once I did that the car lights on the inside went black and I had to pull over because the car battery went out. So my parents came gave me a jump, now remind you this is a very new battery. Gave me a jump and even with a jump the car refuse to start and run without the jumping cables being attached. Why all of sudden? Do you think this is an electrical problem?

Forget the ecu caps; your problem is entirely low battery voltage, or a bad connection. Measure the alt.voltage at idle with no accessories on, and then with headlights and AC on at fast idle. Battery terminal voltage should beat least 14 volts in both cases. If not,get your alt. And battery checked out.

You likely have a power steering leak that has killed your alternator. This is exactly what my '96 did. get a new battery or at least fully charge up the one you have (off the car) , and have your alternator tested. On my car the problem was made even worse by a faulty positive battery terminal (which was only $15 at the dealership)
And be sure you don't have a power steering leak, as LS400 alternators rarely ever fail on their own, in less than 300K miles, unless they are bathing in power steering fluid!
And as far as the ECU caps, I wouldn't "forget them" for very long, as 96's have ECU cap failures at a higher rate than any other LS400 year model!
