Default Rear spring & damper removal

I am about to renew the rear springs on my '93 LS400 and have read all the tutorials. The only query I have left is whether it is really necessary to remove the rear scuff plates [which are at the bottom of the door openings], the roof inner garnishes [line the rear pillars] and the rear parcel shelf as it states in the Lexus repair manual. I don't want to remove these if possible as they are in really good condition and being 20 year old plastic I am worried I'll damage them. I appreciate this may be the way to do it 'by the book' but the book also says to remove the driveshafts which the tutorials make it clear isn't necessary. Any views or advice appreciated.

I don't know how much 1993 differs from 1991 but the only thing I removed was seat to get access to the upper nuts of the shock assembly. Then it was just a matter of getting the assy to come off - it is a struggle.
