Default quick tranny fluid question

on the tranny dipstick it has cold and hot. after you have drained then added tranny fluid, when checking the oil level should the car be running? i've never had a car that had a cold marking. is that marking used when the car has sat for awhile? thanks for the help

the transmission should always be running in Park (after shifting through the various gears) when checking the transmission fluid.

the cold mark is so you can get it in the ball park to a safe range, before driving for 1/2 hour and getting the transmission fully HOT to do the final accurate topping up (on very level ground) to the HOT mark.

also, if you miss the mark slightly, a little too much (I said a little!) is better than a little too low.

^ follow that. also, a good start would be to add the same amount of fluid you removed. then add more as necessary after driving car to get the fluid hot. just to reiterate, make sure you are measuring fluid levels on level ground. this also goes for oil, PS fluid, etc.
