LS400 Lexkost Intake - Before and After Video
So I did the infamous(?) Lexkost intake mod (well, more like removal) on my car. I noticed how there was a distinct lack of videos to really reinforce everyone claiming how loud/soft/NASCAR the sound actually was, so I figured I would go ahead and record what you see below. The video let's you hear the sound of the engine, both before and after the mod, so you guys can get an idea of how much it changes the sound at varying RPMs.
Things to Note:
Impressions:
It isn't really as "Oh my God, it's like I'm in NASCAR" as some people make it out to be... On a 1-10 scale, 1 being the muffler delete and 10 being a full exhaust delete, I would give it about 0.25/10. It isn't much of an upgrade, nor is it a downgrade. It has only been a week so I can't make any claims about overall gas mileage increases/decreases.
DISCLAIMER: The video was recorded with the car in the garage (sound resonates ridiculously) so I'm not sure how you all will be able to gauge how much louder it is(n't).
Now, all that aside, here is the video: (Pro Tip: If it doesn't appear, that's probably because it's still processing.)
Also, a question for all you exhaust guys out there:
Any ideas on how I could get my exhaust to sound like the JIC Bullet Spartan-equipped SC400 at 2:13 in the video below?
Anyways, I hope this helps you all in figuring out whether or not you do this mod. I would say go for it, since it's beyond easy to do and you can tell everyone you run a modified intake On a more serious note, it's 7 AM and while most of you are, to quote a humorous song, "wakin' up in the morning" I'm going to go sleep.
Things to Note:
- OEM Air Filter retained (everyone claims that it flows better than K&N so I opted to keep it)
- 1/2" Black Door Edge Guard (I feel ripped off by Advance Auto Parts [$12 for 18 feet, you decide], but oh well)
- Video is at 100% volume, so it may be wise to turn your speakers down.
- Recorded on a Sony Alpha SLT-A37 w/ 18-55mm lens in 1080p

Honestly, I don't really blame you. The difference is more when you're driving with the windows down. Slightly louder on the top end, but virtually nothing in the low end. Probably because there isn't any air going into the intake for there to be any real sound difference...
