this too was my intitial thought...But its been 3weeks since this pump has been chaged....I highly doubt that smell can remain there for such a long period..And I drive with the windows down...so the cabin gets a good "air-out"

I have filled my Gas tank to the full level, drove the car then jerk it by applying brakes suddenly. Now with the Back seats off, I saw that it was leaking from the bottom 8mm bolts on the set plate
N.B : NEW OEM rubber gasket was used !
I honestly dont know why its still leaking, I tightened the bolts in the respective opposite technique as advised.
I think I shall have these bolts replaced. Where can I locate these 8mm bolts?
What is the Torque to apply on these bolts ?

how could you have torqued these down correctly, if you didn't know the correct torque?
PS - too tight will cause something to leak just as fast as too loose!
the correct torque is 26 inch-pounds (2 ft. pounds) - you need a special torque wrench to even measure this! (it's barely hand tight! )

your discretion probably has them at 15 or 20 foot pounds, rather than 2 - that is why it's leaking!
you may have ruined the seal cover, from distorting its shape
this is why you don't do this stuff without the factory service manual, silly! - best money you will ever spend!

get the service manual, a new seal plate, a new gasket, and a wrench like this one and you can get it to seal right!
it's also the wrench you need for torquing transmission pan bolts!

So next on the purchase list --

the dealership has the bolts, but if you have distorted or warped the plate, you will have to get a new subassembly
and get that manual ordered!
I added a link to a torque wrench on ebay that would be ideal to post #26

the problem with a used subassembly, is that it may have the same problem!
PS - if you want a new torque wrench, this is the best deal I know of currently
