Default Manual Transmission Conversion Question

So, I've decided I want to do a mannytranny swap into my '93 LS.

The only issue is, I'm stuck on what transmission I want to put in! I'm between the SR20, W58 and KA.

The SR seems the be the easiest to source because everyone wants a 240 and slides them into walls. I was wondering which would be the best choice as far as reliability?

If your going to keep it n/a, IMO I would go with a w58 out of a SC300 or mk4 supra. It will be the easiest to swap in and I believe the speedo will plug right in (don't quote me on that). But that's me. I'm not a Nissan guy, and wont put a Nissan trans in my LS.

If you do, the KA's can be picked up for cheap.

I would look into the e36 BMW tranny. It's a brilliant tranny and way better than all the swappable yota and Nissan tranny's. definitely not the easiest but IMO a great option and can be found cheap.

I must have missed it. Does anyone make an adapter?

All the builds I have seen used a custom adapter plate but its not hard to do for someone who knows how.

One of the admins on be 1uz facebook group has a nice e36 with a 1uz.

Oh, I was hoping you knew of an adapter that's available.

This guy is running a BMW box as well:

I'm just having a tough time sourcing a W58 in my immediate area. Supra's are few and far between, as well as SC's. I'll keep looking for it, as well as KA's, the SR just caught me off guard lol.

Try car-part.com

You can search for an 5spd SC at junkyards all over. Might help out

the W58 is a perfectly fine box if you don't plan on going past 400-450whp. any more and you need either a built box or a R154 (pref built as well).

I agree with PD. I'm planning a 5spd swap on my new SC project, and might save up for a R154. I already have a W58 lined up so I'm not sure yet. The W58 is a great transmission for a n/a v8 like the 1uz.

I'm intending on building the heads, doing custom exhaust and headers and reflashing the ECU if I can find someone to do it

you'll be fine, well below that power limit unless you go either forced induction or highly built NA.

Just do W58 or R154. W58 swaps have been done a fair bit on 1LS.
