Default Price quote for repair.

I have to replace the front side fender and get it paint matched as well on a 90 LS400.
The body shop gave me an estimate of 1600 which includes 500 for the parts, fender and the molding in the bottom and then 1100 for the paint and labor of 10.2 hours.
Does this seem right ?
IMO it's a little too much. that's why i need your input.
and while we're at it, i'd like to get names/numbers for any good autobody shops that you can suggest in nj area.
thanks.

That really does seem like a high quote. I would do a little checking around, but if you want quality work, you have to pay for it. To give you a reference, I have a 2003 GS300. I am having the hood stripped to bare metal, primed and repainted. The bumper is the same story and the fenders are being blended. This is an insurance claim as the result of severe rock chips the 3rd day I owned the car. This is all being done for 1200 bucks and the shop is top quality and the only one I would trust for paint work. So you might want to get another estimate bud.

* You can buy a fender for ~$220-$250 from Carson Toytota, Steve Ganz. This was the price quote for a 93 SC400 fender. LS 400 fender has to be cheaper...
Junkyard cost much less... Check out junkyard in NJ and NY, there are plenty junk Lexus around NJ and NY.

* Paint cost to paint a fender less than $40

* Time to change out fender ~2 hours, 1 to take out, 1 to put back

If you are buying junkyard fender then you have to strip the original paint before repaint. That could off set the labor time but if you can buy one cheap...

Dealer fender always come in black prime??/ready to paint whatever color, then install. What so hard about it to cost more than $1K. I hate people wants to F*&^ you when they see that you're driving a Lexus, even that thing is old now...

Thanks guys for all the helpful replies.
questions :
vqt: you mentioned carson's toyota. Does this mean every toyota dealer should have these parts ? if not is there a contact number/website for that dealer you mentioned ?
LSP: I'm interested in the LH fender and the molding on the bottom that overlaps it with a different color (plastic i'm assuming).

Carson Toyota is one of the support vendor here and Steve Ganz the Part Manager for Carson also has a SC300. They also sell TRD(Toyota Racing 'don't remember the "D"). Their No. 800-908-6968. There are at least two Lexus Dealer Part manager here also. One in Mahattan, NY and the other somewhere in the south... I think his call name is Lexpart... He also has good price...

I don't think every Toyota dealer sell Lexus parts. Most of the part are the same and cost less at toyota dealer. You just have to know the part number when you order at Toyota dealer... I know that Oil filter, Spark Plugs, antifreez... are the same. Beside, Lexus IS Toyota Just a different name for us to pay more money
