Default '92 LS400 air bag lite

Recently I replaced several lite bulbs in the dash. After finishing up, my air bag lite cmer on and will not go out. I went through the steps ( at least 50 times) in the " how to " section - to no avail. The procedures seem very simple- what am I missing? Is there an alterative way to clear this problem? Thanks!

Did you remove the battery cable before the job?
The dash is always receiving DC12V from the battery and without disconnecting it may cause problems.

It seems to me that you are not careful enough while typing and what I worry about is that you are doing similar while fixing your car. Something might be not properly done or missing.

First off: the "how too" did not indicate the battery cable needed to be disconnected. and 2nd, I read and re-read the instructions before I began this project.

Who wrote the "how too"? You mean "How to"? I wouldn't trust that "How to" if I were you. Because it is missing one of the basics.

So you had a blown air bag light before. What I worry about is that the blinking was already started before you replace the bulb.

ALWAYS disconnect the negative before performing any electrical work. Did you turn on the car while the cluster was disconnected? Try this procedure. You also might have a real problem with your airbag.

Was the instrument cluster working properly prior to installing the light bulbs? If removing the battery cable is not working, you'll have to go back in and check the harness for any kinks or connections being loose. The 1-LS has a variety of dash issues as they age, any other warning lights on or not working now?

first rule of working on anything on a car: ALWAYS disconnect the negative battery cable, especially when dealing with anything electrical or electronic!

Heck, I disconnect the negative battery cable if I am flushing the cooling system even! - lol

a couple of other basic rules people may not know:

● never disconnect the battery while the vehicle is running, or let the engine run without the battery connected, not even as a test - the battery acts as a large protective capacitor for your delicate electronics, kind of a "surge protector" for the car!

● never jump start a modern car unless it is an emergency - disconnect the battery and charge it and/or replace it - jump starting a car is dangerous to the electrical system - save the jump starting for your 1971 Ford pickup truck

● Always disconnect the battery before charging it up, your battery charger can do bad things to an ECU

● always use a torque wrench when doing any mechanical procedure, whether the instructions say to or not

Is this the method you used 50 times?

On a related note. Anyone know of a good scan tool that will read and clear srs and abs codes on the obd1 cars?? Something that also works on obd2 would be nice. Looking in your direction cowboy.
(It's ok if it only works on Toyota/Lexus)

That sure would be nice, j2b4o. I wonder if Autozone has such a tool?

I realize I can check the engine codes with a wire but that won't show me live data and I don't think it will show me fault codes for the abs or airbag system( please correct me if I'm wrong). I really would like something more comprehensive than blinks on a dashboard. I guess I will just look for Toyota branded dealer scan tools.
