power steering leak...listen up
I had a massive power steering leak that killed my alternator two years ago. Looked non stop for the point of leakage and came up with nothing. I then bought No Leak power steering treatment and followed the directions to the letter after replacing my alternator. Two years later ....still leak free and silky smooth steering. Not so much as a drop has leaked from my PS pump. I have to say thanks to club Lexus for it. One of our members posted that the leak originates from the o-rings it the center of the pump getting old and brittle. I cant remember which one of you added the photos of the leaking pump, but I am sooooo thankful that you did. Fellas, if your having that PS pump leak grab a bottle of that No Leak (from the makers of Sta-bil). You will save a bundle of cash and time.....That is all.........Doc Yota.

Congrats on your solution to that horrible problem that seems to plague every Ls 400 ever made. I played the power steering fluid vs alternator game twice in my 90 and lost playing it again now in my 95. Lucky me the leak is further down the pipe not the pump itself, but the high pressure hose to the steering rack, witch isn't very nice, but atleast it's away from my alternator, I got some stuff called "blue devil" stop leak that wasn't cheap ($20 for a little bottle) and it did take away the leak but it made my power steering almost totally go away for a week! -that was loads of fun driving with no power steering with a wheel stuck all the way in the up position due to the busted tilt away gear.. Fixed that and now the power steering seems to be working again.

I used Lucas synthetic in my differential and I use their upper engine fuel treatment. The fuel additive. They make quality products. I was planning on having my PS system flushed and putting in a bottle of the Lucas conditioner. I would choose Lucas over any of the cheap stuff. It is a conditioner for the rubber o rings. Helps prolong their life.

At the time I was on the road and had access to an alternator but not a PS pump. I used it to get back home without damaging a new alternator and had all intentions of repairing. But when I got home and realized the leak vanished I decided to see how well it worked. I check this car weekly so believe me if the leak returns I will repair it. I just figured there are some members short on cash and this may help someone make it to there next paycheck to get the repair done. My 99 LS is the car I use to gauge Toyota reliability. I still own 2 Honda products currently and this LS is the most amazingly durable machine I have ever owned..

Thats what it ended up as. A dextron flush more than a leak patch. To be honest, I bought this model after I totalled my 98 LS a few years back. When I checked the fluids a month after purchase I noticed the PS fluid was low. At that time, no leak...Months later, it started leaking, something my 98 LS NEVER did. I think I put the wrong fluid in when I topped it off and the leak was the outcome. So the No Leak was more or less to recondition the seals, and then I sucked the old fluid out that contained the No Leak and god know what else and refilled with new Dextron...and her we are...
