Default Bilstein question for 97 LS400

I have a set of bilsteins and H&R springs to put on. The shocks have two ring settings. Can the aluminum spring seat/ring on the bottom be put on wrong so the car will sit too high? Can it be flipped over to make car sit lower? or does it just go on one way and thats it? any pics out there of the right way to put on the lower spring seat? thanks

they only really fit properly one way.

this is from my old L-Sportline setup that used a custom spec Bilstein shock, but the lower mounts were the same, and it assembles the same.

curious: is it possible to install the lower ring upside down, making the car sit higher?

Since no one else has replied, I will offer my opinion.
Please note that I have no experience with these springs/shocks.
I don't think it would be a good idea to invert the lower collars because the picture shows that they have a ridge that keeps the lower end of the spring concentric with the shock body.
If you turn them upside down, there will be no ridge and the lower end of the spring will be free to move (horizontally) and will rub on the upper surface of the collar. I think that would be a bad thing.

look at the design. if you flip the lower mount you'll raise the car, not lower it.

yeah he wants to raise the car .

if bilstein is like koni, there is a shoulder in the lower mount where the snap ring-like hardware is fitted against so the mount doesn't move. inverting it wouldn't be ideal and will only net you maybe 0.5", not worth the risk in my opinion.

There is only one way as PD posted in the pics. Otherwise, the snap ring is not fully retained and an impact may cause it to unseat from the retaining groove.

Glad you found your suspension goodies, post up a pic when installed.
