Question Radio intermittent

i have a 96 ls400 with a nak.. head unit.

Sometimes my radio just goes dead. All display on the unit ceases. The antenna goes down. This unit will also go dead even when I am using the cassette or CD.

The other day I pressed the brake and the radio would die. I would let go of the brake and the radio will come back on. I thought I had found it. but.......

I turned off the ignition and tried to duplicate the same problem and it wouldn't do it then.

Arggggg!

It also will do this when I am driving down the road. It will turn off and on intermittently.

I was wondering if I have a ignition key problem as it seems when I take my ignition key off of the key chain and drive the car without my keychain it is a lot better.

If it is something to do with ignition, what part do I change and how?
I looked at a steering wheel in the salvage yard and it looked kinda complicated.

Thanks for the help!!

oh, and the up/down on the steering wheel will not work. The in/out works fine.

THANK YOU!!

Why don't you measure the voltage before you act?

Are you talking about the supply voltage into the radio or the overall alternator/battery supply?

You need to measure the ACC voltage at behind the radio first . If it is stable, you need to measure inside of the radio. If not, check the supply circuit side of the car. The Radio fuse is under the dash.

There are a fuse and a filter in the radio. After you confirm the ACC voltage is stable. You need to measure the voltage of input side and out put side of them to see the voltage is stable or not. I sometimes find a cracked solder in that area.
