new lexus owner with question about suspension
i brought the 2000 LS up from florida last week.
it's in great shape cosmetically. i couple of questions: 1) it rides very smooth, but when going over a big pot hole, you can definitely "feel" it. because the care is a 2000 and has 67,000 miles, when does the suspension need to get redone? do i wait for some weird sound or can i do something now? 2) when i drive over 65, there is a slight vibration in the steering wheel. i checked tire pressure and it was definitely low (25 mm Hg) so i topped it off to 35 mm Hg and the vibration improved but its not completely gone. what's weird is that when i'm on a curve there is no vibration but when going straight i feel it more. again, it's not major (a friend of mine thought i was just feeling the road) but i don't remember this when i had my old 90 LS. thanks for your help! I have a 98 with 167K miles on it that I've had since it had 1,000 miles. I've never had suspension work done to it.
+65 vibration that goes away when while taking an exit ramp (for example) is most likely worn or damaged tires. Out of balance, out of round, or just flat out worn. A tire can be balanced and still be out of round. |
1- if it's clunking in the front over bumps, strut rod bushing. read the faq and search please.
2-check wheel balance, but likely related to 1. |
