Default Woodgrain Steering Wheel Installed

So I finally pulled almost $600 to do the conversion and adding quick release feature/quick lock and I could not be any happier. I first did a QR setup on my previous car 96 Acura ITR and forgot how much of a pain in the @$$ it is to remove a steering wheel without a puller but 30 or so yanks later the steering wheel came off. REMEMBER before trying this, MUST disconnect the battery for at least 3 mins. I waited 5 just in case... the install is pretty easy as veru straight forward. Im doing this to somewhat show how its done for those who dont know and MORE IMPORTANTLY so people know what part number for the short hub must be used because searching didnt yield until I PMed a member that was kind enough to provide that and worked. This is not so much a step by stepy but its fairly easy and youll be able to figure it out. First things first...
Items that will be needed and used..
-NRG Short Hub Toyota/Scion pt. #SRK-120H
-After Market Steering Wheel (I used an NRG Wood Wheel)
-(Optional) Any Gen NRG Quick Release
-(Optional) NRG Quick Lock
-T30 6-star socket/bit
-19mm Socket/Wrench
-Phillips screwdriver
-(If youre weak) Steering wheel puller
-Beers
DISCONNECT BATTERY for 5 mins and the lead off the terminal until you are done removing Airbag... remove the 2 small plastic panels on the side of the steering wheel and use a 6 point star T30 sized bit to loosen them and pull back the 4 screws, then pull out airbag.

After that remove the center nut holding steering and ATTEMPT to remove it by hand and yanking it off or use a steering wheel puller. If you have spaghetti arms you might not be able to do this. Then youll have something that looks like a transformers just like this... (NOTE that you will have another blackpart to the clockspring that take 4 small phillips screws to remove)

Then take your new NRG parts and stare at all the new shiny parts for a bit

Compared size OEM to NRG 330mm wheel (dont mind upsidedown-ness )

After youre done drooling over the new parts then you line up the steering rod to your hub by LIGHTLY holding the hub against the spindles and driving back and forth to straighten out the wheels. Do not put in all the way into spindels until you are 100% it is lined up, if not you will hate your life for having to pull off that new hub w/o steering wheel on. If this happens you must install hub to quick release to steering wheel and yank it off using your new steering wheel.

Then install lined up hub to the spindels using the OEM 19mm bolt with a wrench/socket. (I had already attached bottom part of quick release to hub)

This is what it looks like with a Neochrome QR

Then attach new steering wheel and youre good to go!!!

Now if I could find a new wood shift **** for these 1st Gen LS that I could order RIGHT NOW from ANYWHERE!!!

If I would like to get anything out if this is a link to ANYWHERE to be able to order a Napolex or wood shift **** compatible with a 1st Gen LS w/ OD!
In conclusion I am EXTREMELY pleased with the results, the steering is nice and sturdy no play/ not loose watsoever. I can turn faster with a smaller radius steering wheel and get more clear view of cluster and over the dash. The grip is very smooth and it has ridges in the back on the wheel for better grip. Yea theres no Airbag now but beauty is pain!!! Horn will be re installed with a spring loaded switch on the side of the steering column. I hope some you guys find this useful. Thanks for looking and enjoy, I already am!!!

good work! on my other car, i put a resistor in the wiring harness to trick the SRS system into thinking the airbag is still there so the passenger side airbags still functions when needed, as well as keeping the SRS dash light from illuminating. as for what value resistance, i am not sure what works best with an LS.

btw, love the gucci print door panels!

looks good, though an interesting color choice for the QR lol.

If you buy the right japanese HKB hub you can retain the factory cruise control (it has buttons on the hub portion).

Oh I got you thanks alot for that input where did you put the resistor exactly? on the airbag wire that is left disconnected?? And thanks alot, some people arent fond of Gucci on the car but I think it adds a bit more contrast to the doors and center consoles if picked the right color pattern!

Haha thanks I thought it would be unique I havent seen anyone with an installed Neochrome QR/lock on their car so I figured Ill be the different one of the group. Yes I saw the HKB hub but its a bit too big (long) to add a quickrelease to I thought. I wanted the quick release for added protection, not counting the QR lock, brake/firewalll lock, fuel kill switch, and alarm...rather be safe than sorry. Reason why I just did this install now rather than later was because thieves tried to break into my car last week, so the next day an order for everything was put in. I dont drive many long distances and work from home so CC isnt a big deal to me. Thanks for the input though, if this was last year, that wouldve been an issue going back and forth from Ontario, CA to San Diego every weekend before graduating from UTI.

yes to the wire that was disconnected, the airbag harness. the harness in my honda has a female connector so i simply stuck the lead ends of the resistor into the connector contacts. i am unsure what value resistor you should use. i would not recommend probing the airbag contacts to measure the resistance. it may go off!

Black leather wheel,
yeah...no. You need to compare with what he actually has.

just the lock and the steering wheel are close to $300.

nrg wood wheel: ~$140-150
nrg qr lock: ~$100-125
nrg short Hub: ~$110-120
nrg Quick Release (gen 2.8): ~$130-160

So you have a range of ~$480-$555, not too far from the $600 claimed.

-Quick Release AND Hub bought as package for $287.98
-NRG woodgrain steering wheel for $149.00
-NRG Quick lock for $129.85
You were on point, total was actually $566.00 not including shipping and some CA taxes. Grand total after everything was $603.xx mightve been cheaper if I bought it at a store and had no shipping to include but no one had Neochrome Q/R and lock so decided to ored everything the same day.
And thats not including the NRG quicklock/release holder I put in the trunk to hold quick lock when Im not using it. Which is another $40.00 and the T30 bit I didnt have, that I bought for $4 at pepboys

I wasn't trying to be a **** about it. They did a number on you man. Where did you buy this all from?

Still not seeing the price dude. I have been getting quotes from Zilvia and everything is well beneath what you paid for.

SRK120H was 89.00 shipped.

Lmao would you like a picture of confirmation email from Amazon with everything I bought? Would you sleep easier tonight that way? Haha I have no reason to lie about what I bought and how much I spent. Ive spent over 6000 on my car after purchasing it. You think im going to lie about a measly couple hundred bucks? I didnt make the thread to discuss how much i spent or argue about it. Thanks PureDrifter for knowing and verifying your parts and prices.

Yes. Yes I would like a confirmation pic from amazon. Thats not what I'm trying to get accross neither am I bashing you about how much you spend on your car. Bravo you spent 6Gs. I'm sure you have a great build going on. I was merely wondering where you sourced you parts from. Why?!? Oh yea because I was planning to use QR set-up. Shopping around is what I was getting at. which you obviously didn't do. Yet you thought amazon is the number 1 shopping spot. That's why you were nailed retail pricing on items that are being offered at a discount price. Good job pat yourself on the back for overspending.
I just posted the part number of the hub that you used or was that incorrect? The price difference about 30.00
No one ever said you were lying . Hopefully some member use this thread as a example.

Lmao a couple of bucks doesnt phaze me buddy. I chose Amazon because products are guaranteed to arrive if anything happens. Also I didnt bother to want to shop around too long either to order from all kinds of websites . Everyone can shop HOWEVER they want. I needed SPECIFIC colors for what I wanted. Neochrome is hard to get and more expensive than anyother color available. I do have a great build going and do not look back on a single penny invested in it. Where you're missing the lump of money probably is the quick release lock or the actual quick release itself or on a REAL steering wheel. You're not getting a full NRG setup with brand name steering wheel let alone wood one for less than $300. Thats definately not including the quick release and quick release lock. Read what you said about me not spending over $300 and add up the cheapest prices you can find for every part by color that I have purchased, And id like to see you add up to less than 500-450 bucks let alone $300. Lmao don't hate the player hate the game haha

Ls400RR exit this thread immediately.

When a moderator tells you to keep it civil that doesn't mean "hey let's call each other names!" should enter your head.
