Default Capital Sport UHP tires (a review)

Well, I'm almost embarrassed to admit it but I decided the risk was worth it. My sc430 wheels came running 245/40R18 as that's what came stock on that rim. Anyway, I have been commuting a lot more and the gas mileage / ride was suffering with the incorrect tire size. At 75 - 80 mph I was averaging 22 mpg compared to 26 stock. With an upcoming trip I decided to bite the bullet and get new tires. Honestly, $850+ is just not an option right now. So after researching around the best deal I found were on these Capital Sport UHP tire. I had never of heard them but reviews are actually not bad. Supposedly it's the same company that produces tires for Goodyear.

So, 245/45R18's were $475.00 out the door and the ride is good. Better then the Kuhmo / Michelins I was running. They are quiet and a cruising tire. I have yet to have them in heavy rain but I will update. At 1/2 the price of Goodyear, Falken, Dunlop I could not help but try them. I will keep everyone updated if people are interested. So far dry grip is just as good as the used Michelin Pilots that were on the back. Time will tell but so far they are actually performing better then expected.

Tread: 420
Temp: A
Tract: A

The 3% difference in diameter shouldn't have that much impact on MPG. The weight of the wheel combo along with this might but that is a significant drop.

Probably is some weight. The RPM's that much higher was just killing mpg at 75 mph and a little over. I averaged 3 - 4 more mpg today at the same speeds. Roll resistance I am sure is less on this style tire too. I was temped to go back to stock rims for a while as I could see 30 mpg if I kept her at 70 but I just could not bring myself to do that.

I was about to get those set too for the g35 wheels I'm putting on, but instead they offer a set of brand lionhart sport series for 330 mount, balance out the door so I went ahead and took the lionhart so far it's fine, pretty quiet and comfy have not tested freeway yet until I get it align

I was tempted to go with a 50 mm sidewall. 45 over 40 makes a noticeable difference in comfort.

Agreed, but when riding low gotta make some sacrifice. Below is how it look like as of now right after tires were mounted. need to get the proper size spacers still and thinking of lowing it abou 1/4-1/2 inch more front and 1-1.5 in rear

Looks good. I could not get around on a daily basis if I was that low. Who cares about sidewall with the coilovers that low. I'm sure your suspension is rock hard. With a +45 offset I run 15 mm front and 25mm rear.

sorry but tires i've learned are one of those things not to save money on.

I've run name brand 1st or 2nd tier tires for years now. Running Nitto these days on my LS, Yokos on the other LS, and Kumhos on the IS.

Agree with PD, that contact patch is very important but YMMV on expense priorities. There are a wide variety of top shelf tires that aren't big $. The Yokohama S-Drives and Continental DW are pretty reasonable. The Continental DW was $675 mounted and balanced at the time. The shop was selling these less than that big online seller, so I was very

I agree with you guys. I don't want an inferior junk tire on my car. I was about to leave the shop but I found this site. 10 pages of pretty good reviews can't be that bad. Looks like they are made by Beijing Capital Tyre Company, Ltd. I looked for poor reviews online and I really can't find them from anyone who is actually running them. I will let you know. I still have my old tires if necessary but right now I am happy. And believe me, I know a junky tire. If anything, longevity will be the answer. Tread, temp, and track are all good ratings.

Just a minor update. We saw a lot of heavy rain yesterday and today and the tires performed well in the rain. Wet traction and resistance to hydroplaning were good. So far, I have nothing to complain about with these tires.
