Wire Hanging from Dash on my 1998 LS400
Anyone know what this wire is for? I just got this 98 LS400 about 10 days ago and noticed the wire was hanging down from my dash, next to my brake pedal, since yesterday.
Here is a link to the photo of the hanging wire on my flickr page:

Factory wouldn't put inline fuses like this. Any non factory electronics added tot he car? Aftermarket alarm, lights, audio gear?
As for pic links, from your Flckr account, right click image location, copy, then on CL use the little icon that looks like a yellow letter with the postage stamp in the corner. The window will allow you to paste in the image location and click <OK>.

Probably some power lead to aftermarket device thats gone now. By the looks of the red jumper behind it that car must have something else wired in. Follow both wires and see where they go. Do you have a oem stereo or do you see any extra holes in dash.

Oh, btw, it does have a whistler radar detecter in the upper glove box above the cd changer. I just keep the radar detector turned off because it was making lots of noise with no police around lol. So maybe that red wire leads to that radar detector.

wires jumpered into the fuse panel are a very bad plan!
none of those wires in the pic should be there, Lexus doesn't have loose wires hanging around in the car, and all of those wires need to go before they cause you electrical system problems!

Using spade connectors and "piggy back fuseholders" into underdash fuse blocks to power aftermarket electronics has been standard professional installer procedure for decades. Not a problem although the dangling wires should be tied up out of the way. You might as well keep them in place for now - might make it easier to install your own devices.

Yes, you are missing the fuse block cover which tells you the function of each fuse. The spade connector or piggyback fuse holder to which the wire is attached may stick out to far for the cover to fit -- common. Sometimes the cover can be made to fit by "modifying" (i.e. cutting) it.
