Default speedo needle went out...

On my way home tonight the light for the needle went out. It's just the speedo. I've been reading about the needle itself not working but, I'm wondering if this could just be a bulb? I can see the needle still moving like normal, but not lit up. You guys think there is a bigger issue or maybe just a bulb?

Another question. The factory lights, are they LED's?

just the light, depends on what year also...there's some threads about places you can send the panel to and get it fixed. Or you might can find a local place, my whole dash wouldn't light at one point, and 2 needles half burned out, got it all fixed for like $200

No. It's a CCFL. The details of CCFLs are written here.

I am currently trying to use LEDs in stead of CCFLs used at the cluster. Both the supply voltage and shapes are totally different and you can't replace them simply. I only have succeeded to use LEDs for back lights but needles need some more experiments. The weight balance is also important for needles too.

I guess I'll be pulling the cluster when I get some free time and see whats going on back there. Would be a good time to pull a couple bulbs out for the 5spd swap coming sometime this year.

get some paint and paint the back of the needle and be done with it..the paint needs to be conductive though. if im wrong then maybe this is a better solution
