Default Fuel tank location

Where is the fuel tank located on 98 ls400? Weird I kind of smell gas but I don't see any drips or where it's coming from so I want to trace it to the tank and see if can find anything. All inputs greatly appreciated

The fuel tank is between the seat back of the back seat and the trunk on all years of the LS400. It was moved to underneath the back seat on the LS430. If I remember correctly (and I may not!), the fuel pump and fuel gauge sender are replaced from inside the car after removing the back seat. The backseat is pretty easy to remove if you know the "secrets" ... hidden bolts behind the head rests and arm rest behind the leather panels held in place by velcro.

So tracing it to the tank, I found a small hole probably as small as pencil tip it's not leaking but I can smell the fine etc. I guess it was accidentally puncture when screw the amp against the rear back seat didn't realize the tank was there. With that being said has anyone use the epoxy tank repair sealant? I bought one of those tube looking like thing where I cut the amount I need and knead it to mix then apply to the hole. Just want to know if these things actually work, anyone who had used them let me know your experience with it thanks

weld it! haha jk jk jk!

i would not think anyone here has used that stuff but you never know. i'm sure if it's made for fuel tanks, it can withstand the corrosive effects of gasoline and fumes. glad you found the leak.

it's a bit of a big job but i'd just find another '98-99 (2k won't fit) LS in a yard and grab the tank out of it, it's unlikely to be heavily in demand.

a skilled welding shop could weld it. In the car.
