Default Question concerning '95 LS400 Amplifier specs (Nakamichi)

I just recently acquired this car and right away replaced the stock radio since the whole right side kept cutting out. I spliced into the wiring at the amp to run my new Alpine deck as well as using the existing speaker wiring. I have removed the stock amp from under the seat (which, mercifully, didn't require removing the seat) because I plan on putting my own amp in there to run the sub. Typically, for an amp you need to run fairly hefty wire for power and ground. I was wondering how they got away with such light gauge wire to run the stock amp especially considering it had to power all the speakers?
