Default Could it be true?? [Tie Rod Manufacturer Discussion]

Tonight's discovery online:

This company implies that GM/Delco was the original OEM for our quite pricey LS400 inner tie rod ends. It wouldn't be the first time I have ever seen GM parts as original equipment on a Toyota.

If this is true, it greatly cuts the cost of this important part by over half, has anyone here ever examined their old inner tie rods to try and determine the original OEM?

no credible evidence= no care.

that's a site that specializes in GM/Delco parts, and while it's very likely for Delco to have assigned a GM internal parts number to it (they do that with pretty much anything they make*), it's very unlikely for toyota to somehow think that they should fly tie rods thousands of miles from a delco factory to japan.

*proof that Delco assigns a GM part number for everything they make:
-'93 ('89-97 iirc) LS400 steering pump
http://www.oehq.com/oeparts_36215175.htm
-'89-99 LS400 Fuel Pump (Actual OEM was made by Denso)
gm parts: 25177374 , AC Delco parts: EP465
http://www.oehq.com/oeparts_25177374.htm

If the LS was made in one o the US plants, I might have been able to justify what you're saying, but as NONE OF THEM EVER WERE, it's just false.

Also, please make your thread title more descriptive next time. It should actually have to do with the content of the discussion.

Lol, you can buy delco parts for high end German cars as well... Doesn't mean GM is their OE supplier.

And where does that site say that delco parts are oem suppliers for Lexus?

Title of the site says "Ford and GM Part Specialists" not "all makes, all models"

All you found was a domestic site which lists parts that cross over.
A lot of parts do that simply because there is only a few ways a lot of parts can be engineered. If the ball size, thread pitches and lengths of a GM tie rod are the same as or similar enough to a Lexus part designed for a car of comparable size, GM now makes a Lexus part.

yes, well I have found original Lexus/Toyota NipponDenso TPS's, the real ones with the Toyota part number, brand new in A/C Delco boxes under a Delco part number, so I am not crazy!

GM and Toyota had a parts sharing arrangement in the 90's

if you haven't actually examined a factory inner tie-rod end from an LS400, to find a mark from the OEM, then you really can't say for sure who Toyota's OEM for the part was!

Electronics get licensed out and re-boxed all the time in the automotive world.
I've bought Niehoff and Beck/Arnley tagged/boxed electronic parts for other cars and found Delphi, Nippondenso, motocraft and others brands enclosed.

but where does that company imply implicitly or explicitly that Delco is the OEM supplier for Lexus?

I didn't say they were the supplier, but that website lists OEM suppliers and aftermarket suppliers separately, and stranger things have happened - and it is not that Delco itself is the actual manufacturer, let's say that some Japanese equivalent of Moog is the real OEM, or maybe it is Moog of USA fame, these might be being sold under the Delco name for cheap, just like the TPS and CPS was - when I opened some Delco boxes, these gorgeous $160 NipponDenso Toyota CPS's fell out of a $50 box - woohoo!

go back and look at that original link I sent - they have two sections on every part, the upper main section shows the part brand that was the OEM part, and then another section with all of the aftermarket choices they carry

It was curious that on this part, the OEM was listed as GM

This:

OEM Mfr----------------------------------------------------------Related OEM Numbers
GENERAL MOTORS OE---------------------------------------------------19111042
LEXUS------------------------------------------------------------------4550459025
That is just a part# cross-reference to the actual dealer part numbers that this part corresponds to.
AC Delco is sort of a GM economy brand, so Delco part#'s are not listed as OEM numbers even by GM.

Chances are that Delco part also works on a full size GM car or light duty truck/SUV, just happens to have the same thread pitches, ball size and similar length to the Lexus part so it can be used interchangeably.

Delco made NO (zero, 0) OEM parts in the Lexus LS400 during any point of it's production.

Find some toyota/lexus based info to prove the opposite and you may have something. Until this this is nothing but hearsay and misinterpreting cross-listed parts numbers.

I have examined my inners, no Delco stamps/marks that I recall.
