Default LED bulb replacements 95+

just replaced my lights with LEDs and thought i'd offer this small update for the 96 which has a few differences i'll outline in bold/italic below...

Interior Lights:
2 x #74 for footwells
1 x #74 for ignition cylinder (led will need some sanding to fit right)
1 x #74 for glovebox (you will need to modify the housing to fit right, a small exacto is all that is needed)

4 x #194 for doorlights (puddle lights)
4 x #194 for rear maplights(on C pillar)+rear door dome lights (technically not on the c-pillar which would be behind the rear passenger heads)
1 x #194 for trunk interior light (do the neon conversion, MUCH better light output than any 194 bulb or LED)

2 x BA9 for front maplights
2 x BA9 for rear maplights (these bulbs DO NOT EXIST on my 96, so check before you order!)
1 x 31mm dome light
2 x 30x6mm fuse style lights for vanity mirrors (in the sun visors)

Rear Exterior lights:
2 x 7440 for Rear Turn Signals (needs a electronic flasher or resistor box for signal bulbs)
4 x 7443 for Rear Brake Lights
2 x 7440 for Reverse Lights
2 x #194 for rear license plate lights (be short to order the shorter body bulbs as long extra bright bulbs will not fit behind the cover!)

Front Exterior lights:
2 x 9005 for High Beams
2 x 9003/H4 for Low Beams
2 x 9006 for Fog Lights
2 x 1156 for Front Turn Signals (NOPE, my car has 7440s for the front signals, i even ordered a replacement part from Lexus and get a bulb holder for a 7440 bulb, you will also need a electronic flasher or signal resistor box like the rear)
2 x 194 for front bumper markers (short bulb required)
2 x 194 for Front corner markers (any length bulb will work here)

you realize that the listing is for bulb replacement, not converting to LED...right? I'll see about throwing your tips about LED length in at some point when i revise the faq next.

i'll double check the turn signal issue, this was on your '96?

Yeah, fittinging LEDs is one thing but i still did not have a few of the bulbs as they were listed. the front signals were 7440. i had to order a new bulb holder from Lexus and it came as a 7440, not a 1156. infact both sides were 7440 and the clear corners i got were also 7440?!

i did not have the BA9's in the rear, only in the front map lights.
my rear map lights were 194s.

there was also no listing for the vanity mirror lights in the sun visors, which is a 30x6mm festoon fuse type bulb.

And from what i can tell, all of the 95-97s have the same bumper markers(beside the signals) AND corner markers(beside the headlights) which are both 194 amber bulbs.

I just added in some notes for fitting the LEDs since that is what i just did.

hope that clears it up

Thanks Shmee for updating us on the LED specs. Going to move this into the the main section for discussion and additions. When the FAQ is appended we'll have this thread to link to.

For others, if you've used the LED panels please detail what mods if any were needed to fit in the location chosen.

Can you do this for the instrument cluster too? i Did them in amber in my 4runner, and i pulled the clock from a late model taco because its also amber. I think the ls might be too complicated to just pull the cluster out though...

on the front bumper signals of my 97, they are indeed 7440 from the factory for US cars, despite what the sylvania bulb guide states (1156). however, i bought clear lenses and they came with 1156 holders.

it is to my understanding that the aftermarket clear lenses company simply copies the OEM part but this case they copied the japanese OEM part not the US. I know this since the side marker has a different bulb holder which does not mate to the US harness. you can simply reuse your US bulb holder on the aftermarket lens to remedy this. the 7440 holder also works with the aftermarket lens. in addition the side marker outer lens has a bump instead of being flat.

as for the rear c-pillar lights, some 98-up cars have them! my 97 did not.

I haven't been through all bulbs on ours, I don't recollect a bayonet bulb at all. My old Celica, is all bayonet mount bulbs so trying to do LED conversions is a PITA. I have been looking for 194/921 sockets.

I only had the 2 bayonet BA9 bulbs in the front map lights, pretty much everything else in and put on my car was a wedge type bulb.

Sooo what about converting a 194/168/T10 to a 9003 or something similar...
Is there a harness to do this? Is it even possible without completely rewiring?

Changing out the socket for a bulb of similar wattage/draw or less should not be a problem. LED efficiency makes this easy to not generally overheat the gauge wiring. With high output LED clusters or wired in series, this can be an issue to pull more than what the harness was designed.
