Any ideas why this happens??

A little more information would help, do they only do it from cold? Do they do it anytime?Is it intermittent?
Do they come back on if you hit the top of the cluster?

My needles are turning black starting from the top and it stopped about a quarter way down I have heard this is normal

I replaced my temp gauge needle with a new part form Lexus and it was different looking than the original thinner and seemed of course brighter.

So either do the diy to fix yours or find a shop to ship it too.
