Default OBD 1 or OBD 2

that is the question. I have a 1995 LS400 without an OBD2 under the dash. the manufacture date is 3/95 and i have a round port under the dash without the TE1 or E1. the diagnostic under the hood did nothing when hooked up to reader. several trips to the toyota man and still no way to read my codes. the CEL does not blink. and I have tried every thing I have read on here. I have been just replacing things and reset the code( disconnect batt) but the CEL comes back on.
going back a few years this seems to be a heated subject between a few of you. never the less I do not have a obd2 under the dash. I am a logical person so if it came with one then it has been removed by a previous owner. what else could it be?

thank you
Boomer

I am not understanding the issue - OBD2 is on 96 and newer vehicles. Your vehicle is a 95 and you are saying it does not have OBD2 so..... no issues?

I find it easier to use the diag port in engine bay. Put jumper on the same pins. You will have odb1 for sure.

OBDII ports are always rectangular in shape, if you have a round one it will be OBDI so the paperclip code read method is used.
Toyota OBDI port below.

Typical OBDII port shown on the link below.

my '95 model year car was OBDII.

OP are you sure you have a '95 model year or just a really late '94?

all 2nd gen cars made for the US should have OBDII ports afaik.

Hello, and thank you for your replies. the problem i have is every one says my car is OBD2 the paperclip method did nothing. the toyota man used his $4000 dollar scanner connected under the hood and it said the CEL should blink, it did not. the other scanner he used stated this was a OBD2 vehicle. I will take some pics but the port in the car is round and has no E1 or TE1

take the lower driver's dash panel off (just a few screws) and see if the port didnt get pushed up behind it. Very possible for a ham-fisted mech to break the mounting tab.

Pure Drifter, you know your stuff. I just got back from the garge where I took the lower dash apart and I found the OBDII connector. It was jammed up as far as it could be. So it would seem the 95's came with an OBDII. It only has five or six pins on it but its there. It only took ten minutes or so to find. thank you.
