Default Polished Windshield Trim

How's it going all!! Still pretty new to CL, but wanted to share my quick side project I just got done. Unfortunately I do not have any before pictures, but I have end results! As we all know, the black trim around the windshield takes a lot of abuse from road debris. Well, mine was driving me nuts. I noticed that under the black trim was a chrome base. I pulled them off the car (removed the weather stripping and 3 screws later). Sprayed them down with the heavy duty paint stripper and watched the black get eaten away. Hit them with some brake parts cleaner to try to neutralize the stripper, then washed in soapy water. Broke out my 4" polishing wheel on my grinder and went to work! Started with a rough cut then a fine polish. Approx 30 mins later, I have the following results.

Like or hate?! :-)

I think it COULD look good, but only if your car had the polished door pillars to match. Otherwise it look out of place.

you will be wanting to hit that with some clearcoat lest it start rusting on you.

Door pillars will be coming soon. That will most likely be the end point of polished exterior add-ons. Less is more in this case. Minus wheels of course.

Not my cup of tea and here are the reasons why: 1. Looks busy 2. It looks like it doesn't belong 3. Polished or chrome will look good when it's single and continuous.

Having them in different places will make it look busy.

If you're happy and you like it then it's a good deal. Just not my cup of tea.

I dig it for now and it should flow better when I add the other accents and what not. Best part is, I can always make them black again if I get sick of it :-). I've got a good friend that powder coats!

spencer t is correct. they do not rust. mine have been pitted several spots revealing the chrome on the windshield trims ever since i had the car. i just used plastidip to cover it cause you can see the chrome spots from afar.

Some stainless will rust, medical grade (which I am sure these are not) will not. Mine show no signs of rust yet and it has been raining and very wet here for a few days. We'll see. I'll post it up if it starts too. :-)

What weather stripping did you remove? The long rubber piece that runs and seals between the door and the windshield pillar/door jamb?

That'd be the one. Gently pull it out as not to tear any of it. That will reveal the three screws that hold the trim to the A pillar. :-)
