well not me but my daughter did, on her way home from Santa Cruz today, drove for about an hour and a half, on the freeway, in second gear in her 91 LS400. Total knucklehead. Used a half a tank of gas for that hundred mile stretch. First road trip away from home. Guess I should have told her about the tachometer. Thing is so smooth couldn't tell the transmission had not shifted into gear. Said, "I was wondering why the engine was louder today". Good grief.

Ouch... feel your pain, pmarr... fortunately my daughter was very into cars and very attentive... after a timing belt job on her little honda, she noticed the oil light came on... Immediatly pulled over and called me. Seal had failed and oil poured out of it. Tow, replace the seal, fresh oil and she was up and running with no major damage. Way proud of her.

Wash, polish and was on one today. Other one will be next weekend.

I got four new Pirellis P7s @ DISCOUNT TIRE for $540 with taxes and everything included. They do great in snow, better than the Michelins, and with the new brakes and rotors, my '94 LS runs SMOOTH!

That's a great deal! Now I wish I did get the Pirelli P7s. By the way, do you supposed to get a four wheel alignment after you install new tires?

Yes, the alignment was free....I also got the "V" rated P7s...I called around and got quotes.....they basically price matched.

Oil Change
Out: Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30, Bosch Distance Plus filter
In: Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30, Denso filter

Trans Drain/Refill
Out: Factory fill is my guess. Car only has 70k miles. Yeah, a bit overdue.

question for you. Any car I have ever tried to do a trans fluid change on ended up for the worse. Is there anything I should worry about if I do this? My car has 94k on it and probably has never been done. It shifts perfect right now though.

Got bored of the stock exhaust and put on new mufflers. Still a little quite for my liking. Probably will remove resonators next. Have to fix an exhaust leak up front too...

and that is my poor supra in the background waiting for it's new motor.

I'm going to assume you've done drain/refills on automatics and they soon blew up afterwards? I don't worry about this. I feel if it happens it's only a bad coincidence, even though it happened to me recently on a GM transmission that has known issues with the 3-4 clutches. There's no way to prove that the transmission would have lived if the fluid were never changed. You can't go back in time.

I wouldn't worry about it provided you're not abusing the transmission (it's not a manual) and you use the specified fluid. However, YMMV.

BTW, my car just turned 70k. That GM transmission had 130k miles on it and also had regular fluid changes so I'm still not convinced that fluid changes cause issues.

I think it's coincidence that it blew when it did. I put 3 trannies in my 80s model Bonneville and was headed into my
4th at only 120k miles when I said goodbye to US cars and went with Toyota... never looked back.

The Toyota tech I talked to relayed that trannies that don't get a fluid change tend to go south at the 150-200K mark. Driving style also depends, in city or highway. The samples we have here when serviced do well over the 200K range. The majority of LS400 owners aren't looking for super long term cars so when this part fails, the car is usually a parts donor if there is anything good. For those that want a long term car, it would be advisable to do the fluid changes as recommended.

I posted this in the car chat a bit back about an Audi that didn't get an oil change:
http://jalopnik.com/what-happens-if-...-fo-1692660828

Basically fluids have a determined usefulness.
