Default Rust killing of LS400's?

I just took the mats out of the boot of my 1996 LS and noticed that on either side of the boot on the backside of the arches there is rust! i pushed on it and my finger dented the arch and nearly went through. I was wondering if this is a common problem on the LS has anybody else experienced anything similar?

Seems it. I guess thats what 228,000 miles of water, salt and stones does to them i guess i will have to write that on the to do list to be repaired then

Can also indicate the car has been through deep water/flood and the carpet was soaked for days/weeks. Any chance this was a salvage (flood damaged) vehicle?

i dont think that it would have been a flood damaged vehicle. but i know that the boot seal is leaking so im going to order a new seal in a couple days from sealsdirect which would have caused water to sit in the areas that are rusted
