older LS400's
 

hello all,

I've been looking for an older LS400. My question is....these cars,..how do they run with 100,000+ miles on them? Every one that I look at seems to be in the 120's. I've had 2 friends with LS400's...a 1997 coach edition with 52,000 miles (he later go rid of it for a 2000 CLK430, which he regreted) and a 1995 wth 90,000 miles. Both actually rode, ran and sounded th same (mute and refined) and it seemed the 1995 was a little neglected. I'm no stranger to toyota quality as my family owns a 1995 Corolla with 160,000 miles and a new 2002 Camry. Can I expect alot more life out of, lets say....a 1993 LS400 with 130,000 miles on it? better yet.....is it likely to possess the same attributes that made it the great car it was when it was new? ie, smooth ride, acceleration and quiet operation? I plan to keep it in top condition for as long as I can. My first car was a 1988 Cadillac Eldorado that I bought for $800 back in 1999 with 176,000 miles. This thing ran anything but good but I managed to keep it for 3 years after someone told me I would be lucky to have it run in 1 year. I babied it, as I plan to do with my next car...and I'd like an LS400. I'm young, but I like quiet, smooth, understated cars. Thanks in advance!

It should be fine as long as it has always been serviced.

I have seen many LSs with over 200k and even seen one with 360k with the original motor.

I saw and drove a 91 with 500k, it was in very good shape.

An LS with over 100k miles or even 200k+, runs just as great as a brand new one as long as the car has been well maintained. Most LS owners maintain their cars pretty well. If you're buying an older LS as well as any used car you need to have it checked out thoroughly, or run it through car-fax. I'll tell you one thing, a Lexus is the most reliable car in the world, you can't go wrong. If you're worried about the car being to old why don't you just go for a later model for a few extra dollars more, just a word of advice. There's a lot of mint condition used LS400's out there..... Purchased my 1994 LS in May of 2000 with 82,000 miles and today with 108,000 it runs just the same ..... Smooth as silk (Knock on wood) :) love my car !!! still better than most on the road. Like Lexozz said, you find an owner who pampered his car, you are good to go ! So man go with the LS400 all the way !

its seems as if everyone is asking this question over and over....a simple search would of help.

I have a 90 LS with 168,000 miles...yes 168K and it runs just fine. No major problems yet. And Lexozz ( whats up) can agree with that also.

I have a 91 with 209000 miles and it is still smooth as silk with lots of power. I drive the car over fifty miles every for my work commute. I have had a few minor things done like rebuilding the a/c compressor and replacing the shocks, timing belt and water pump. These cars are bulletproof, I would place them right up there with the old Mercedes diesels which routinely get over 1 million miles in taxicab use in Europe. My only recommendation is to have a mechanic you trust check it out for any damaged supension, steering, and drivetrain damage.

got a 93 ls400 with 226,000 just changed the origanial water pump runs great......

92 w/ 215,000 miles
 

I have a 92 with 215,000 Miles (344KM), Original eng. and trans. I've had it for about two years now and up until right now I've only spent about $200 on repairs other then regular oil changes. Although this week I'm getting both lower front ball joints replaced, the power steering pump replaced and a few other minor items.

I turbo charged my LS at 140k miles. At 140k miles, most car would need a fresh engine in order take the turbo punishment.
