Default Questions on my new/used/LS400

Hey everybody! First time on this site. Looks like this is the place to be! I hope so! Here is my issue ,I just picked up a 1993 Ls400 with about 135,000 mi. I purchased it from a friend so I trust the info.I , guess the car had been running fine, until it started running rough! Thinking it was a minor tune up issue his mechanic started throwing parts at it without diagnosing the problem! So here is what has been done...Timing belt checked ,new caps and rotors, new wires and plugs, fuel pump, new crankcase timing modulater.(that may be the wrong tech. term) They also sent the computer in and I guess all the major areas in the computer check out ! But I guess they were told that it could still be in the computer (something about all areas cant be bench tested) Now I guess it is turning over but will not start (he said that it very briefly started ,but has'nt started since, Is there any thing obvious that is being overlooked I havent worked on the car yet, I know I need to recheck the wires and caps and that ! But if anybody has any info that will help,It would be much appreciated !!! Thanks B---

you should read up on the "Sticky: UCF10/11 1989 - 1994 LS400 FaQ ( 1 2)" at the top of this forum. first.
And you need a Lexus mechanic.

Nothing obvious - There are too many variables. You need to start with the basics - spark and fuel and see where it leads you.

It looks like the mechanic already covered the basics. This reminds me of a recent thread where the wrong timing belt was used.

Thanks for the replies! Okay I have alittle bit better handle on the car now that I have had a chance to get under the hood! When I put a new battery in,I turned it over and the car started but shut down in a couple of seconds! It wasnt like it sputtered to a stop, more like a sensor shutting it down! Turning it over after that and no response! I can get in the next morning and it will start and shut down after a couple of seconds! So obviously I have fuel and fire ! So I pulled the codes on it and came up with a code 24 which i since have cleared.I then went to change the oil and had a substantial amount of fuel in the oil, which I was told was a bad fuel injector. (or could have been from the previous owner continually trying to start it) So i pulled tested and cleaned the injectors! I have a new MAF , Installed a new (used) computer, ! What the Hell am I missing?!! All though I appreciate the advice that I need to find a mechcanic , that is just not in the budget right now! Any input from someone in the know ,would be great!!!! Thanks B---

So the OBDI code 24 was an intake air sensor fault.

Is there reason not to suspect this sensor?

Or is it part of the MAF
Just trying to help.
