Looking at getting a 1990 ls400. Its looks like a really clean car besides driver seat being torn easy fix tho. Car appears to be in good shape for the year. (Havent seen in person yet just lots of pics). Only thing im worried about is miles it has 225k so just wanted some feedback about higher miles on these cars. Also anything i should be looking for when i go look this weekend. Traveling a couple hundred miles to look but cant find one where i live in good shape and good price. Thanks for any help.

Just do the typical car inspection. Or have a mechanic or shop check it out for you if it's not a problem. Make sure the obvious schedule maintenance and such has been done. Anything from timing belt to water pump, oil changes, fluid changes. See the common issues that the LS400 has. Unless you can do a lot of the repairs yourself or handy on cars in general. I wouldn't be picking up a LS400 that requires some work.

Read this sticky for more common knowledge of the car.

Ok well thanks for the info ill be sure to look into as much as i can he wants 3k but most of that price reflects 20" wheels and tires with 90 percent tread and 3 tv's. Well should have the car home in a couple days if the car itself is worth it. Will post pics. Hope to get a better deal with cash in hand.

From what I could gather about these cars is that the motor tends to last around 400k and the transmission about 300k with regular maintenance. Not to mention I can find a 1uz and tranny for $700 at the junkyard.

its not the engine you have to worry about.
its the suspension that will get you.
even if its not air suspension it will still cost a fortune or a few weeks to replace all those worn rubber pieces

Mine was just over 200k when i go it two years ago. I will say paid less than what you are looking at. Do you plan on keeping those 20's? If not than your already looking at spending money. Give it a good once over try and search the VIN on lexus website. Look for any maint stickers in engine bay too. The cost of repairs for these cars can be high if you can't do some yourself.

Best of luck.
