Unhappy '93 LS400 Lack of power and negative rpm gauge under load

I recently changed the timing belt on my 1993 LS400 (148k miles). I drove it for about 50 miles or so before I realized something is not quite right - lack of power after the timing belt is changed (Initially did not notice somehow). On the driver side, the mechanic did place the rotor 180 degree out of correct position. So I opened distributor and rotate the rotor 180 degree. Afterwards, I checked the timing - it is about 9.5-10 BTDC. However, it still seems to be lacking in power. If the timing is 9.5-10 degree BTDC, the timing belt should be positioned properly. I did check that there are sparks that are fired in cylinders 5 and 7. Can anyone explain why there is lack of power somehow? When the car is placed on reverse on a slightslope, the rpm gauge increase from idol to 1100-1200 rpm, then the rpm needle turned backward as load increases. The car was running perfect before all these happened.

Obviously, if it didn't happen before, you didn't do the timing belt correctly. Go back and find the mistake you made.

If the crankshaft timing is timed at 9.5-10 degree BTDC, does it mean the timing belt on the camshaft is positioned correctly? I think that the timing bet on the camshaft may be off. If this is the case, how can the correct timing be measured? Is there another variable?

Your mechanic fitted the rotor arm 180 out and you refitted it correctly!
1 Find a new mechanic who knows what he's doing.
2 Have your new mechanic recheck the timing and adjust it correctly.
3 Ask your old mechanic for the money back you have paid to have the job done incorrectly.
