Curious on what my 1994 LS400, with 250k, is worth to people like us?

Default Curious on what my 1994 LS400, with 250k, is worth to people like us?

Hey guys,

My avatar should still have a picture of my champagne LS400, '94, with 250k miles on it.

It runs great, no problems, fixed the power steering issue, and smaller issues that go with these cars.. but one reason they are so great is they were built so well.

I didn't know where to put this, as I'm not 'selling' the car right this second.. so classifieds wouldn't work -- but would like an idea of the value of it.

I know most any dealership will give about $800- maybe $1000 for the car simply due to year and mileage.

However, it isn't uncommon for these cars, taken care of, to go 400-500k+.

I am looking to get into a more recent model of some sort in the near future, and thought I would list it among fellow enthusiasts before letting a dealer "steal" it from me, essentially.

The car is immaculate for the age.

It has a minor scrape on a passenger lower panel in front of the wheel panel, but not an "expensive" fix.. and is about the only cosmetic thing wrong with the car. Garage kept all it's life.. so paint isn't faded, etc.

Would it be worth it , when I decide to sell it, to list it in the classifieds, or really not worth the time?

I hope this doesn't rub anyone the wrong way.. just trust you guys ,.. and appreciate any information you can provide.

Just trying to get a ball park figure.

Just for reference, I bought the car with 219k, for $4000.00 -- and invested another few thousand in some light maintenance, tires, fixing power steering issues (myself), upgrading the head unit (but tastefully), and so on. Nothing to really devalue the original car.

Thanks for your time,

honestly it's worth about 3k here in cali. with records.

if you're lucky, MAYBE 3500, but 2500-3k is more right for a '94. anything more is getting into a similar condition '95.

PureDrifter's prices are what I would buy your car in said condition from a dealer, around here, as is, no warranty.

The highest I would go from a private seller, same car same condition, up to $2500 if I wanted it that bad.

I thought about selling mine as well. Its a 94. But I know that the amount of money that it gets sold for it won't be worth it to let go. I'm going to ride mine until she gives up on me and retire her.

Depends on the location, but around here you most likely won't get $3,000 for it. $2,500 -- maybe, but 3K would be tough.

I did a quick look on CL and there are very few LS400 on there now (usually there are alot), but I did find a nice-looking '94 with 85K:

This one is a '91, but it looks to be a clean runner that could be had for $2,000: http://stockton.craigslist.org/pts/2825851626.html

Thanks.

It looks like my car will be on the open market this coming week.

I hate the hassle of trying to sell it , fielding calls, test drives, un-serious buyers etc.

Then there are those on the internet whom may see value in a car that isn't beat to heck and back...

Do I just post it on the classifieds here? Or what would you do?

I've sold a car through the internet before, had them commit to buying and drove to pay and pick it up, went fine. But that may be a lucky experience.

Thanks for advice.

Problem with selling it is these aren't rare cars at all and last very well. There are lots to choose from. If yours is very clean, that's a big plus. Maybe put it out for $3,600 and see where it goes, you can always lower the price.

Well, went ahead and just put it in the lexus classifieds here,.. for $2699. I can wiggle a little on that, but a very fair price already imho.

Check it out if you want.

Take care,
