Default LS400 won't shift out of first. Reverse light stays on.

Looking for help!
(1992 LS400)
Tried heading to work yesterday morning, and my reverse light stayed on, whether I'm in park or any other setting. It's stays dim, but brightens to full strength when I touch the brake or put it in Reverse.
And I can't get it to shift into 2nd or drive. It now only has 3 speeds: park, reverse and first.
I called my Lexus dealer (1.5 hours away) and they said they've heard of this before but never seen it themselves. They think it's the Park Neutral switch. $700 plus installation, from California, 1 week or more to get it here. No guarantee its the solution.
I thought my Shift Lock button had failed. I've never used it, and tried to find instructions in the manual, but no luck.
Any suggestions would be appreciated! A proper diagnosis is my first hope. A simple / cheap fix would be my second. But all advice will be entertained.
Thanks.

One or more broken wires at the left trunk hinge. There must be a hundred threads about it on this forum.

Wow. I'm still laughing.
I searched the formum just like you said, Kansas, and found:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ownshifts.html
In it, you answered a similar problem, and identified a white wire with a black stripe.
I was a bit sceptical, but as instructed, I opened the wiring at the left trunk hinge. And there, staring me straight in the face, was a cleanly broken white wire with a black stripe!
Bingo, bango, bongo, I'm back on the road! 10 minutes!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
I so owe you for this help! Thanks, Kansas!

Wow. It's Sunday morning, but I think I will stay here reading CL and learn how to deal with my 17 year old car when it acts up in the future. I wish there was a good forum like this for dealing with my 17 year old son.... simple, quick, easy solutions.

I hate to ask as this may offend some, but is religion and prayer really appropriate on a forum like this?..IMHO completely and utterly irrelevant to any car talk. I am all for free practice, but does it belong on a forum meant for cars?

Just a respectful question... It ruffles my feathers the wrong way.

Default Where is my wire harness on my lx 470?

Kansas - I have same symptoms and conditions as LS 400's - reverse light stays on, no acceleration and revving. But I have no trunk on my lx 470 - have the drop down back hatch door. Do you happen to know if I have a wire harness and how I can access it to check to see if I have a broken wire? Thanks!!!
