Default 1993 LS400 timing belt

I'm gonna change my timing belt tomorrow and since advanced auto parts doesn't have the timing belt/water pump kit in stock, I have to buy all my parts separately. The kit shows the actuator but since Im buying everything separately, Do I need that piece since searching the net and it doesn't show that I need it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is an OEM kit for timing belt job on ebay for $300:

Does anyone know what is "book time" (i.e. labor time in hrs) for a typical timing belt job for 1st gen LS? Do most shops price using this book time?

Default timing belt job for $299 by Golden Auto Care of Campbell, CA

10 to 15 hours? That seems high.

Here is a guy in Campbell, CA, doing it for $299 (labor only for 6 cyl) ...

Has anyone been to Golden Auto Care, Campbell, CA ?

This guy is really cheap. Timing belt package for $299 (labor only)

Here is his ad on Craigslist.

4. crank seal
5. balancer shaft seal if applicable
6. timing belt
7. balancer belt if applicable
8. all drive belts
9. coolant change
10. valve cover gasket

valve adjustment $60 more

$299 labor only for 6 cylinder Lexus, 8 cylinder is slightly higher

Is this guy for real? ... labor at $299 for 6 cyl Lexus (and slightly more for 8 cyl)? for timing belt + water pump + valve cover ?.... that's the lowest price I have seen anywhere by far. Doesn't sound right when it's that cheap.

it's not 10-15hrs, realistically it's more like 6-9hrs if you know what you're doing. that being said, i'd make sure that labor includes everything, and is probably only for the 1st gen 1uz. the 2nd gen are a bit more of a pain as you have to be very careful to get the timing exactly right or risk grenading the top end.

we have only done one 94LS, but have done 5 95-2003's with just hand tools, takes a day, 7-8 hours, except the 2002 with the turbo/super charger on it. I say WE, my nephew Jon, actually done the work, I provided the parts and his lunch..... sorry about that... he's 40 something, I am 77. but I pay attention to him.. so there. I'm a good watcher.........

we got our parts at: http://www.store.partsdinosaur.com/page247.html

Default labor time for cam and crank seals

I was told when doing the timing belt, it takes no extra time to replace the crank seal, however it will take three extra hours to replace the two cam seals. Is that so?

I was also told it's usually the crank seal that leaks first. The cam seals are usually good till around 130k+ miles. Is this everyone's experience?

it takes very little extra time to do the cam and crank seals on the EARLY 1uz.
on the later 1uz (98-00 and MAYBE '95-97, i forget) the crank seal is easy but the cam seals require camshaft removal.
