Default Wierd Weird WEIRD!!! Tilt Stering

OK, so ever since I bought my 91' LS 400 a year ago the tilt function has not worked. About a week ago I had a new battery installed and apperantly the shop did not tighten the positive terminal all the way. So the other day after golf I went to start the car and it turned over once and POW all the power was gone. I checked the battery and found the lose terminal and when I twisted it to get better contact i heard something moving in the car, and low and behold the steering wheel was tilting up! I could not believe it, so I got in and used the tilt button and it was working fine, full range of tilt up and down, the tele has always worked. So I drove home and decided to check again and it was not working. Is that WEIRD or what.

What im thinking is maybe a relay the has some bad contacts, has anyone ever had anything like this happen.. or have an idea what it could be?

Thanks

Woozy

Default not that wierd

mine goes back up anytime the bat is diconected, either have to drop the lower column cover and play around with the gear or I have to man handle it to get the wheel back down. Maybe it is wierd, yours was not such a pain in the you-know-what.

The next time it works, do this.........

Hold the tilt control button down untill it stops. Then press down 8 times. On the 8th time, it will drop a quarter inch. Then press the auto tilt button to off, and never worry again.

That is untill you lose all power again.

This puts the steering column in "service" mode. And it will stay there permantly......or untill the battery is disconnectd or fails.

Mine is not the gear problem, im pretty sure that its electrical in nature. It seems that the surge that occured when I reattached the battery caused it to work for a short time. Is there a relay that is engaged when the is inserted, im thinking that if there is it could have weak contacts for the tilt process.
