Lowering a Strutmaster's Spring/Strut Conversion with Tanabe Springs
Hi,
I'm new to the forum (1st post). I recently got a 1993 UCF11 Toyota Celsior and came across this forum when looking for support. The previous owner of the car replaced the air suspension with a Strutmasters Spring conversion. The car stands pretty tall (on stock 16" wheels) and I would like to lower the car using Tanabe DF210 springs, then add some bigger wheels. I know the Tanabes will fit a stock suspension assembly, but the problem is that I'm not sure if they will fit on the Strutmasters assembly. Has anyone ever done this, and can confirm if they work? I live in the Caribbean, so buying, trying and returning springs is not an option for me. Thanks, Jonathan |
the strutmasters should be the same as stock.
but the tanabes will blow the stock-like shocks sooner rather than later because it's far too soft. |
Would that be the case with any lowering spring, or just the Tanabes?
What's recommended to best lower the car? |
I've polled local dealers on coilovers, and they surprisingly have for such a rare car.
Once the price is right, I'll go full coilovers. |

Thanks for the response, I discovered that after doing some searching on the forum, and began searching for coilovers locally.
Down here, coilovers are a bit more expensive than springs/struts, but I think it will be worth it in the long run esp for the flexibility. I also changed out my bumper lights and bought some 20s today. |
Yes, the flexibility is good with adjustable units. Let's see some pics. :)

buy some quality coils (megan, BCR, similar) instead of the no-names, and you'll have a pretty good time.
|
Got some quotes for coilovers. Megans are the most expensive, then Ksport, with D2 Racing RS being the cheapest. I did not find any BCR. I'll look up some reviews for the D2s here.

my car is on megan and it rides pretty good. i am also on stock tires, its like rolling on balloons im sure its helping soften the ride. but sofar over all i am happy.
show us some pic's of your car x2 |
Sure, I'm painting the rims (Duplicolor Bronze) this weekend, hopefully, and once they're on I'll post up some pics.
|
if i remember correct the d2's and ksport and made in the same factory...go with megan ez's, heard nothing but good from them, and for the price you cant go wrong. dont go with d2's or ksport is what sticks in my head from some of the posts i've read.
|
personally, i've seen enough problems with ksport to stay the hell away, and D2s customer service is a joke. Megan racing or BC Racing are tried & tested. Otherwise go with one of the japanese brands, but getting support is a real pain. (buddy club, cusco, etc...)

Are D2s really that bad? I've read some decent reviews on here.
The D2s cost $1kUS and the megan's cost $1300US down here. I do have access to used JIC coilovers, but I don't want to invest in used. |
lol you're paying list price for the megans? contact one of the vendors here like CircuitMS or NigelJDM and get proper pricing.
