Default 94 LS400 Coldstart need to warmup 5 min or it will die

i have a 94 ls400 with 190k miles. I did seafoam which helped a little, but if i dont warm up it for 5min it will die on the streets, once it is warmed up it will drive like a champ. any ideas?

Does it start up on fast idle? maybe the AIC valve is stuck if it;s not going to fast idle...

I would rec cleaning the AIC valve if possible, if not then replace it as it sounds like it is the problem. It is what controls fast idle, cold start etc I would doubt it is the fuel filter!!!!

Replace the water temp sensor. Sounds like its telling the engine you're still cold when in reality its a lot warmer. If in fact thats the problem you will see a rise in gas mileage too. You can get it at Autozone for about $30.

Water temp sensor^^^? I don't agree. It dies when cold until he can warm it up so it is not getting enough air/fuel it needs to be richer not leaner. AIC valve lets more air in which in turn will give more fuel and increase idle speed. If it is stuck closed it won't allow more...

I highly dought the temp sensor is giving a constant hot reading, although can't rule it out either.
Plugs "gooped up" then it wouldn't "run like a dream" when warm...
I still say Aic valve...

Try replacing the coolant temp sensor.

Thats true but if the water temp sensor doesn't reflect the actual temp the engine will run like it thinks it should based on the readings it gets.

I took to mechanic. I order a used tps sensor , used air idle , new coolant sensor and new fuel filter. For around $120 on eBay. That's what the mechanic recommend. So I will let you know once he get those installed. But sounds like everybody is on point with aic and coolant sensor. Dunno why he want me to get tps sensor

Please let us know, I know that TPS sensors will give you a hesitation and a stutter when cruising and light accelerating, but not to do with start up when cold. Sounds like you got a good deal on the parts though. Be interested to hear...

mechanic cleaned the throttle body, replace tps sensor ,coolant sensor, and fuel filter ,but did not install the air idle control because it didnt come with gasket and he needed new hoses. Car runs good now even without the AIC. he also adjusted the cam sensor cause it was rubbing on some wires and replcaed a fuse on a injector. car runs ten times better and doesnt die on start up. chrage me $100 so i was happy
