Headlights getting foggy
Hi guys. I'm noticing my headlights are getting a little foggy which seems to be a common problem on the 98-00.
What's the best fix that you've noticed? PlastX works but then slowly fades off. I was thinking a polishing ball or even wetsanding.
I know on my old BMW you could replace the plastic cover but I think these cars are one sealed unit?

Several of us have used Crystal View headlight lens restoration kits. There are "after" photos of mine in https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ight-lens.html
I used a Crystal View kit several years ago and then again a view months ago mainly due to one headlight lens getting badly scarred by someone hitting it with a shopping cart. Both times they cleaned up very nicely and looked like new.
The amount of light the headlights put out at night seemed to double after I used Crystal View the first time - a stunning improvement.
The key to using the kit is to follow the instructions exactly. I did a better job the second time I did it since I was not as gentle sanding. You will want to wet sand vigorously to get the original UV protective layer and all the crud off the lenses. It will look like you are trashing the lenses when you sand but they will become completely clear when you apply the final chemical coating.
One Crystal View kit is enough to do both the headlights and fog lights on a 98-00 LS. I didn't restore the foglight lenses the first time but did when I refinished the headlights a couple of months ago. The foglights again look like new and put out noticeably more light.

Seal/wax is not necessary when using a Crystal View kit or other kits that have a chemical coating that is applied to replace the original factory coating and might damage the chemical coating if the wax is a "cleaner wax" that contains abrasives. But, yes, if you don't use a restoration product that contains a replacement chemical lens coating, the lenses will re-haze in a short time if you don't keep them waxed.

High cut pad on a random orbit with a rubbing compound of your choice. I prefer meguiars ultimate compound as its affordable, easily available and works well. Some wax/sealant will keep it good for awhile but with those kind of headlights it will eventually return.

I tried Meguires, Black magic, and Mothers. Then i took it to a shop and they used another brand, would not tell me what it was. They put it in different bottles and had their name on the bottle. still hella hazy.
I leave my headlights on (turn off with alarm and on with ignition) and it rains alot here in Oregon. I think that the HID's burn the rain to the outer lense. maybe on the inside if they leak.
