[QUOTE=PureDrifter;6742895]buy your OEM strut rod bushings from a dealer like Carson or Sewell or westminster and get more than that. i think i paid ~$35-40/each for mine like a month ago.

The only replacement strut rod bushings I can find on the net are all AST brand bushings, which are labelled as being poly, and are $65 each. I've seen them at a dozen sites, but no rubber bushings. Have you found anyone that sells the rubber bushings besides the dealers, and do you have a part number? Thanks,

Steve

no, the dealerships are the only ones selling the RUBBER bushings afaik.

why would you buy those poly ones if they're more expensive per piece than the OEM, and ruin the ride?

That's just it; I don't want poly, but I was sceptical that the dealer would sell anything cheaper than aftermarket places! Do you remember any part numbers? Thanks

Ok, so I took the new Strut Rod bushings to a mechanic and had him press the new ones in... BEFORE I NOTICED IN THE MANUAL that the bushings are supposed to be pressed in a certain way! CRAP.

The "Index tab" of the cushion is supposed to be pointing down if looked at from outside the car. It is pointing up.

Does anyone know how critical this is??? I'm without a car till I figure it out!

Crap. I was afraid of this. I guess it's a good thing I caught it when I did.

NOTICE:: I dont think anyone has said this, BUT you need to press the new bushings in, in a certain position for them to work properly. see the PDF below.

Yup...that's exactly the section I noticed AFTER I had them installed incorrectly.

my new bushings had the tabs colored to get your attention, see photo

AND dont tighten the bolt with the wheel hanging in the air, or when you lower the car on it, the flexibility will be used up and your first big bump will tear the rubber.... .

Reversed the bushings and reinstalled. YAY! The clunk when braking is gone. It's also helped with the shimmy at high speed (but not solved it...I think it's a combination of bad tires too), and the shimmy when braking to a stop (which I thought was rotors).

I just received a set of these from Sewell today. I am sure it is going to be a nice improvement considering I have 190k on the originals.

Those are the same symptoms I am experiencing. That is good to know that it may help with the slight shimmy that I am having. I had all four tires road force balanced and I still have a slight shimmy. I gotta get these installed asap.
