1UZ to W58 Flywheel
(im posting again cause i dont think my post went through if it has please tell me where it went)
ive searched here and all over google and havent found any hard info on a flywheel that works for this set up i know its been done with a 3SGTE flywheel but its modified and concidered "unsafe".
anyone out there that can point me in the right direction that would help a butt ton.
ie links or previous post or threads on it
Quantum-Auto.com makes a kit but my pockets are not that deep they use an OEM one but wont tell you what its from, of course.
anyone that can help please post.
thanks
Brian

lol unsafe. not really the right place but i'll bite.
no OEM flywheel bolts on. all the flywheels on the market are either modified 3S-GTE/2/3VZ flywheels or custom made (bespoke) flywheels for the 1uz. neither option is exceptionally cheap. nothing wrong with a modified flywheel provided its done properly and rebalanced.
google is your friend.

Try these guys:

They can make you a custom billet flywheel for the 1uz and they have a modified toyota flywheel. I am going to try their kit for my 1uz project.

3s and 3vz have the same clutch type. the only difference is in the ring gear i thought.
i've got a 3S-based toyotav8 adapter and flywheel sitting around for me to have time lol.
note: in stock form these flywheels must be modified to work on the 1uz.

ummm you're totally wrong, the 3vz flywheel is the way to go. 3sgte is a fail for so many reasons it's not even funny. you have to use a spacer behind the flywheel just to get the ring gear spaced out enough, plus you have to flip the ring gear also. And even if you do flip the ring gear the lead is on the wrong side of the teeth, so starting intermittently fails. in addition to the fact that you have to move the holes out almost half an inch.
I discontinued using 3sgte flywheels almost a year and a half ago becaus so many people were having issues
also all of the 3vz and 3sgte pressure plates and clutch discs are interchangable.

I'll go ahead and let the cat out of the bag since I'm feeling nice today.
This is what I do to the flywheels I sell, and exactly which flywheel to use.
You need a flywheel from a 1990 4runner
you turn off all of the material off the backside till you have .1" from the face of the ring gear to where the flywheel bolts on.
then you bore the bolt holes with a 7/16" endmill on a 1.575R bolt pattern

Update, the custom flywheel from www.1uzfeswapkit.com worked perfect for putting the 1uz in the Porsche 944....We used a Ford Ranger 1" x 23 spline clutch disc to mate the Porsche torque tube drive shaft....
