Buying a 1997 Lexus LS400 Coach Edition *help*
Hey guys. I found a 1997 LS400 Coach Edition Black on Black. Was looking for some advice and see any opinions on this deal. Any help would be appreciated!
Has 166,455 Miles. Exterior is in good condition, Interior is fair nothing major. Asking price is 4,525. I really like what some of you have done with your ls400 on this site and am really wanting this but need to know if its a good deal.

thanks guys!

I just sold mine with 210K miles and I believe it would have gone another 200K no problem. When was timing belt done? That is coming up at 180K. I went through three sets of strut rods in 180K. Every other oil change drain the transmission and add T4 to fill (2 quarts).
Looks to be in good shape.
Generally a bullet proof car.

First question I have for you is; "Where are you located?" That strip mall there looks pretty damn familiar but I can't place it.
The most important thing with buying this, or any, used car would be the service history. You would need to know what was done and when, especially the timing belt which is due every 90K miles and all the fluid changes. These cars can get VERY expensive if they weren't taken care of too good. Is there anything on the car that you know doesn't work? Like that antenna being up, is the stock power antenna broken? The body looks pretty decent but it could have alot of buried problems. If you use the search feature at the top of the page you can get some very useful info on what to look out for. Personally, I don't like the wheels but I'm more of a "stock" guy. Welcome to CL, good luck on the purchase.

I have a '97. Problems I've had are: leaking power steering pump, cracked egr pipe, starter went out, replaced antenna, had dealer replace one of the front struts before we bought it. Currently replacing timing belt. All of these I did myself, except for the strut. Good luck.

thanks for the responses guys! Its located in Greenville, SC. I do know that it will need a new timing belt for sure. Also the AC will need a new blower as its not very strong at all. I should be making a decision by next week. Until then ill def be browsing through this forum as it seems to have a good amount of info. Any other advice by others would be appreciated. Thanks again!

For that price Id want them to come down, especially with AC probs and a "fair" interior. Or maybe I got a better than avg deal on my '95? I paid 3700, 8.5+ interior, put another $700 into her to bring her up to current scheduled maintainence. 121,000 miles on it.
Oh, if your candidate needs timing belt/water pump...IMO the car is overpriced given the other issues and milage...just my opinion!!

It's not the plaza I was thinking of, they're all looking the same in my old age. The A/C not blow hard enough could just be the "cabin" air filter clogged. But if it needs a new blower and with it deffinately needing a timing belt/water pump job, that price is way too high. The more I look at it it looks like it had some body work, the drivers front fender don't look right at all. It doesn't line up with the door or the hood. If it has all those problems, and maybe more, it's not even a 3K car. Keep looking around, you'll find a better one, cheaper.
