Pole Position
Did it have the misfire before you did all the work? (wires and everything) If not then you might have put the rotors on backwards. (It's been done by many people) The gas smell could be b/c the plugs aren't firing.

mileage?
timing belt?
igniter problem?
check engine light on?
how long was it running bad for?
is your coolant temperature gauge behaving normally or higher or lower than ususal?
Since it's a 1996 model, what Diagnostic Codes is your engine ECU reporting with your OBD-II reader, if any?
My buddy's 96 SC400 was reporting OBD-II trouble codes when his ignitors and coils weren't working right so I would hope your LS can steer you in the right direction...
My cheap old OTC brand "Stinger" OBD-II reader is so primitive that it doesn't know anything about make/model/year of a vehicle at. It just queries the main ECU and reports whatever codes it's told about to the screen if the car thinks there's a problem and it's got a separate book to look up whatever codes it was given by the car and I actually like that better than having to answer a bunch of questions just to pull trouble codes on different vehicles... Plus since they're basically standardized you can easily google those codes with your iphone or driod if you can't find the book too.
