Sounds pretty darn good. The only thing I could suggest is that you could likely find a very nice '98 model for just a little bit more cash, which of course has the refreshed front fascia (looks much better IMO) and also the more powerful VVT-i engine.

It is a good deal if the timing belt and water pump have been replaced.

I agree with Speedboat, the 98-00 LS looks amazing, and can be had for just a bit more.

And dashan has a great point, it should say on top of the engine if the timing belt (and hopefully water pump) has been done by the dealership.

But to answer your original question, yes, it sounds like a good deal.

Good luck man! Such wonderful cars!

I think it is pretty good obviously, $5,900 is better.
Clean ones will become a hunt the older they become so you take the chance on passing if you want to hunt down the 98+. Which IMO is the better car with side air bags and transponder chipped ignition. HID's are also an easier retro game there.

Thats a great deal for a car that was 59k when new.98+ has better features but with that kind of mileage, if it exist, should be over $12k I would guess. I would do the 6K for the 96.

I recently purchased a super clean '96 LS w/ 77K for $8K, but that was from a dealer. I could have purchased another clean '96 w/112K for $6K from a private party. So, I think you have a good deal working.
