ECU connector pics needed
I need help in determining what year wiring I have on my motor. I have a complete motor with wiring and a '92 ECU, but the ECU won't fit the plugs. I know that the '93-95 years had different connections on their ECUs so I was hopeful that someone on here has pics of their ECU connections the same as what goes on my wiring so that I can find out what year I need to get.
Picture is probably not helpful but maybe you can tell if your connections are like mine to let me know what year to look for.
If you have one to sell, then let me know.

Idk if this will help you but I don't have a pic. From my 93 manual it shows 4 connecters that go to the ECU, they're labeled as E9, E10, E11, E12. (Idk if it's L to R or R to L) E9 has 34 terminals, number 16 is blank. E10 has 22 terminals, number 21 is blank. E11 has 16 terminals, number 2 is blank. E12 has 28 terminals, 28 is blank.
Hope that helps you somewhat. If you need a used ECU, and seeing how you're in Ct., you might want to check Chuck & Eddie's in Southington. That's who I go to for my used parts and they usually have at least 3 or 4 LS400s in the yard at all times.

From my picture & wiring, it looks like only three go to the ECU. The other two must go to something else and then the other single goes to a third one. Would like to find out what those are, but first need to find out what year this motor and wiring are out of.
I don't have a car and the guy who I bought the motor from has no information on what vehicle it came out of. So I can't look at any VIN. Part number look up from the wiring states 89-95. Not very helpful there either.

Don't know if this helps at all. Here's a pic of the dash removed, (post #4) https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...d-removal.html you can see some of the wires. He has a 91. There's 4 connecters that go to the ECU, 3 wrapped together and 1 seperate. In the pic is the ABS ECU still bolted to the dash, and the 2 connecters on the left, I think, go to the heater assembly.
You can get the VIN off the engine. This thread, post #19, shows the number plate and says where it's located on the engine. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ication-2.html
I'm surprised about Chuck & Eddie's not having any, they did last month. (2 96s, 1 91) Sometimes they keep them up to the left, the section normal customers can't go into. What town you from?
The 10th digit (which is a letter) in the VIN tells the year. In that pic it's L which is 1990.
Instead of me writing it all, this will explain the VIN; http://www.autohausaz.com/html/vehic...n_numbers.html

I'm in Newtown. I will search the engine tonight for the VIN. Thanks for the help.
Wish they still had them. I wouldn't have had to drive up to Somers.
I have an ECU for a '92 and it is totally different plug ins. My plugs will not go. So how much is a '92 ECU going for these days?

90-92 ECUs are going for $40 - $175 in this area. 93-94 is a bit different. If you can find one somewhere in the country, they're going for $200-$300. I didn't realize they're that hard to find until I just looked it up. http://www.car-part.com/
By the way, I'm up in Bristol.

Ran a full check on the VIN in *******.com and came away with North American market.

Do I just don't understand how to plug in a freaking plug??
UPDATE: I got the tranny and ECU from the same guy and they both came out of the same car. The VIN stamp on the tranny says it's a 1993 with a 'P' for 10th digit. I guess I have a 1993 when I was told it was 1992 by the seller for sure. Even in PM. So I guess I need to get a 1992 ECU and sell this 1993 one.

I don't think the 92 ECU will work using a 93 tranny matched to a 91 motor without doing work to the wiring harness. Maybe someone else could shed some light on that. PureDrifter???? Too bad I don't have some spare cash, I'd grab the 93 ECU from ya to keep as a spare. Damn unemployment. Eh, at least you need the cheap ECU. Brewster, NY got it for $75 and it's close. Hope ya get it figured out. Let us know.

Yea, none of that **** matches. If I get a '91 ECU, I should be fine. Tranny hook ups are the same. No not a drifter. This is going in my 4Runner.
The ECU is in waterbury at Tom's Foriegn for $100, so I'll probably go for that this weekend. Sell off the '93 ECU when I get a chance.

the trans wiring is similar, and at worst will need to be repinned if i remember right (from 89-92 and 93-94)
you just need to keep wiring harness and ECU (and engine sensor plugs) the same sub-generation (89-92, 93-94)

I thought everyone knew the infamous screenname "PureDrifter". I don't ever recall seeing someone with 17,000 posts in 1 forum. But, ya been here a while and have the knowledge. That's what I was thinking, it needing to be repinned. Hopefully it works out good for ya.
I'm not sure how Tom's is now but years ago (20) I used to have problems with them every time I went there, since then I just go to C&E and Terryville. About that 93 ECU; PM me and tell me a price. Can't afford it right now but I'll keep it in mind.

If you find/get a good, working '91-92 ECU, I'll trade you with my '93 ECU. 89661-50140
I guess I will need to know what repinning will be needed. Also, what is the speed sensor for at the front of the trans? Will I need that??

I wouldn't want to trade you on that. Even if I had the $$ to get one, if it ended up being bad then you would come looking for me. I wouldn't want that, unless I was across the country where ya can't find me, but not in the same state. Just kiddin', I aint like that and I hate people who are. But, C&E also has one for $75. You could always list the 93 ECU on Ebay, there's always people looking for them. I'm not sure, off hand, what speed sensor does what.
