Default Window Tinting

I am considering getting the windows tinted on my new LS 430. Is there anything particular that I should be aware of. I have never had non-factory tinted windows so I am not sure that is a good idea.

In addition, can someone recommend a good tinting placing in the West LA/Beverly Hills area?

Thanks.

i just had my es300 tinted. it is awesome and looks really good. make sure that you go to a place that has a lifetime warrantee incase something were to happen that is unforseen.

well i have 35% mirror tints all around my ls4. I suggest you get 25% Black limo tints. It will look much more classy then it is already. I also suggest you go to a professional. These LS's are very hard to work with because the door material is so close up to the glass....dont be shocked if its more than 180-200

Hold on everyone!!! Tinting an ES300 or an LS400 is very different than that of an LS430 for very important reasons as follows:

1) If your LS430 is equipped with either Navigation or the LexusLink system, you should NOT use any tint that contains metal (many do, many don't - but you MUST ask). If you use a tint that contains metal, it may interfere with both the Nav and the LexusLink.

2) The rear package tray must be removed on the LS430 to tint the rear window - this involves removing the upper and lower portions of the rear seat.

#2 makes tinting an LS430 very expensive because of the involved time, but #1 makes it difficult to find a quality tint location and can also add cost.

Hope this helps!

i didn't know all that stuff had to be done. my dad is going to have his ls430 tinted and they didnt tell him those things. maybe bc he didnt mention the nav, but the rear winshield thing, what do you mean by that, i'm sorry i don't understand.

my tint was $250, my dads was quoted at $285 since he wants metallic and has the 430 with the 2 panel rear windows

Basically, metallic tints may void your warranty on your NAV and Lexuslink products as it will interfere. Check the Lexus manual - it's pretty clearly stated in the documentation on the NAV and Lexuslink.

The rear seat needs to be removed to do the back window also...

Default I considered tinting then dropped the idea...

At some point I was considering tinting the windows mainly to protect the interior against UV and IR during hot sunny days. Then I found out the factory windows provide good protection against both, and they have the advantage of good visibility at night.... so I decided not to tint. If you're doing it to improve looks or get privacy in the car then go for it.

That would be great. I am familiar with that area.

Thanks.

My car (used) had 35% rear tint and 15% front tints. Initially I considered removing them but have since found that the extra tints do a very good job on keeping the inside cool on hot sunny days here in So Cal. I hardly use the sun screen on the driver side. In addition, since I park outside at work, the rear seats remain cool throughout even in 80+ degF of heat and sun.

Default FYI

Found out today that extra tint of the front windows of any automobile (beyond stock tint) is against the law in California, courtesy of a California Highway Patrol officer. Actually it was my wife driving the LS and was stopped by the CHP officer. I now have until 10/31/02 to have this removed or face a Night Court appearance.

But here is something interesting on the CHP site (FAQ's)

http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/answers.html

Judging by CHP's own site, it appears that the officer may have been a little ahead of himelf in citing my wife for this 'infraction' since it is actually allowed as of the 1999 law in California. The front tints on the LS are not any darker than the stock front tints on my wife's '01 Sequoia, so what gives ?
