Default 97 fob questions

hello, did a bit of searching and nothing answered my question to its full extents. i was wondering if i could buy a 98+ key, the ones that have the remote part built into the key, and have it programed/cut for my 97? anyone have experience with this and can shed some light on this? i recently lost my only fob(clicker) while i was out and about because the key ring part snapped off and fell out of my pocket
Thanks guys

Fatcat2,
Greetings. I own a 1994 LS400 and when I bought the car I was only given a "subkey" which is only a key. I took my title to the local dealer and they were able to make some "master keys" that open all locks. The new masters do not operate my alarm but as soon as I lock the doors the alarm turns on. If your alarm activates the same all you need are master keys. If you want the key fob alarm remote you may have to order a whole new chip that comes with new keys. Then you will have to have it installed and programmed. This is what I learned about my car when I asked the dealer. Maybe your circumstances will be the same and maybe not. I hope my reply helped some.

No. The FCC ID is different between them and so will be the RF frequencies used for the programmed ECU's. For the 95-'97 LS, the SC which I forget what years also uses a compatible key FOB. At this time, they are getting far and few. If you find working ones, buy them.

You will also need the correct transponder key for the engine immobilizer. The vendor will have a chart indicating which key is compatible.
